Patient information for a particular patient, radiation treatment information, and information regarding a particular radiation treatment platform that includes at least one multi-leaf collimator are each accessed. These teachings then provide for optimizing a radiation treatment plan to dose at least one treatment volume in the particular patient using the particular radiation treatment platform as a function of the patient information, the radiation treatment information, and the information regarding the particular radiation treatment platform, wherein the optimizing does not include optimizing movement of any leaves of the multi-leaf collimator.

Method and apparatus to optimize a radiation treatment plan

Disclosed herein are methods and systems for predicting a virtual bolus in order to generate a radiation therapy treatment plan comprising training, by a processor, a machine-learning model using a training dataset comprising a set of medical images corresponding to a set of previously performed radiation therapy treatments, each medical image comprising at least one planning target volume and a non-anatomical region added to the medical image; and executing, by the processor, the machine-learning model using a medical image not included within the training dataset, the machine-learning model predicting an attribute of a non-anatomical region for the medical image not included in the training dataset.

Machine-learning modeling to generate virtual bolus attributes

A control circuit generates an optimized radiation treatment plan with respect to an adjustable collimation device and then automatically generates at least one quality assurance accuracy value corresponding to the optimized radiation treatment plan. By one approach, the aforementioned plan comprises a plurality of treatment fields. In such a case, automatically generating at least one quality assurance accuracy value can comprise, at least in part, automatically generating at least one quality assurance accuracy value for each of at least a substantial number (or all) of those treatment fields. By one approach, the aforementioned quality assurance accuracy value comprises a dimensionless metric. This dimensionless metric may represent, for example, dosimetric accuracy corresponding to the optimized radiation treatment plan.

Method and apparatus for radiation treatment planning

Example methods and systems for radiotherapy treatment planning based on continuous deep learning are provided. One example method may comprise: obtaining a deep learning engine that is trained to perform a radiotherapy treatment planning task based on first training data associated with a first planning rule. The method may also comprise: based on input data associated with a particular patient, performing the radiotherapy treatment planning task using the deep learning engine to generate output data associated with the particular patient; and obtaining modified output data that includes one or more modifications to the output data generated by the deep learning engine. The method may further comprise: based on the modified output data, generating second training data associated with a second planning rule; and generating a modified deep learning engine by re-training the deep learning engine using a combination of the first training data and the second training data.
