The invention relates to a scanner for clock discs driven by d.c. motors and provided with light transmitting slits for putting out signals to an evaluation circuit in typewriters or office machines of similar construction, with the slits (4) being scannable by a dual light barrier arrangement (5) in the form of a position sensor and including a light source (6) and two light receivers (7, 8). In order to ensure accurate control of the d.c. motor (1) and of the driven members connected therewith, e.g. a print wheel or a printer carriage, it is necessary that the signals at the two output channels, which are offset by one-quarter of a clock pulse period, do not go above or below a certain maximum value. Electrical control devices for such a necessary adjustment process are already known but they are less suitable for inexpensive office machines. The adjustment of the two sinusoidally configured signals at the output channels of the light receivers (7, 8) is realized according to the invention in that the cross section of the bundle of light beams coming from the light source (6) can be varied in the simplest manner by means of adjustable shutters (21, 22) which can be manually pivoted into their beam path. This permits rapid adjustment of the maximum values of the output voltages in the light receivers (7, 8) to a predetermined voltage.

Scanner for clock discs for putting out signals to an evaluation circuit

In a system including a cassette containing a print wheel arranged to cooperate with holding devices provided in an impact printer having a rotatable setting shaft to which the print wheel can be releasably fastened for rotation therewith, the cassette is formed to enclose the print wheel on all sides except the region where it is to be acted upon by a printing hammer, and the cassette and printing wheel can be provided with elements which cooperate to hold the printing wheel in a predetermined angular position in the cassette when the printing wheel is disconnected from the setting shaft. The printer can be provided with a detent mechanism cooperating with countendetent elements in the cassette to hold the cassette in a fully inserted position in the printer. The cassette is associated with a removable cover member engageable with the cassette for closing the region near its top and enclosing the portion of the print wheel where the hammer mechanism would act on a type face, in order to protect the print wheel when the cassette is removed from the printer.

Receiving arrangement for a multiple type carrier for an impact printer

In a system including a cassette containing a print wheel arranged to cooperate with holding devices provided in an impact printer having a rotatable setting shaft to which the print wheel can be releasably fastened for rotation therewith, the cassette is formed to enclose the print wheel on all sides except the region where it is to be acted upon by a printing hammer. The printer can be provided with a detent mechanism cooperating with counterdetent elements in the cassette to hold the cassette in a fully inserted position in the printer. The cassette can additionally be provided with an outwardly curved collecting funnel positioned for catching dirt released in the region where the type faces of the printing wheel strike a printing medium. For use in printers in which the setting shaft is mounted on a pivotal carrier in order to pivot into a position which facilitates mounting of the print wheel, the print wheel can be provided with integral protrusions which constitute holding elements for mounting the print wheel directly in the cassette with only bearing play in the axial and radial directions, and the cassette can be provided with bearing surfaces which cooperate with cup-shaped surfaces provided in the printer to prevent rotation of the cassette relative to the printer when the print wheel is fastened to the setting shaft and the setting shaft carrier has been pivoted to bring that shaft into its printing position.

In the combination of an office machine for writing data and a source of a set of printing types including a carrier carrying such printing type set and a cassette in which the carrier is housed and which is insertable in the machine and exchangeable for other cassettes housing carriers carrying respectively different type sets, the office machine being provided with a receiving unit for receiving at least a portion of such cassette and holding such portion in an inserted position in the machine, there are provided control elements carried by the portion of the cassette and receiving members located in the region of the receiving unit to cooperate with the control elements of a cassette portion in the inserted position for initiating at least one of the operations of setting the machine to the particular printing type carried by the carrier and identified by the control elements, and supplying operating power to the machine.
