An example method of operating a radio system includes receiving, over a receiver-path, an RF input signal from an antenna, and converting the RF input signal to fall within a pre-defined frequency range using a local oscillation signal. The method further includes processing the converted input signal with a standard filter. In some examples, the method further includes generating the local oscillation signal in a transmitter path of the radio system.

An example method of calibrating signals in an antenna array includes generating a calibration signal at a first radio sub unit (RSU), transmitting the calibration signal through a transmission path of a radio front end (RFE) of the first RSU, and receiving the calibration signal in a coupling and distribution layer of the first RSU. The method further includes providing the calibration signal from the coupling and distribution layer of the first RSU directly to a coupling and distribution layer of a second RSU, and processing the calibration signal at the second RSU.

A high frequency multi-layer printed circuit board, according to the present invention, comprises a through connection having an impedance adapting structure surrounding the through connection and enabling an adjustment of the characteristic impedance of the through connection to a desired value. Thus, high frequency signals may be led through the printed circuit board with reduced signal deformation. The high frequency multi-layer printed circuit board is applicable for high frequency signals up to the GHz-range.

A printed dipole antenna comprises bent dipole arms connected to respective feed lines formed on opposed surfaces of a substrate. In one particular embodiment, the dipole antenna is provided as a folded dipole, including two or more connector lines to provide an increased frequency range. Two of these dipole antennae may advantageously be combined to an antenna system having a superior radiation characteristic in that the two dipole antennae are arranged to have a different orientation. A corresponding circuitry may then select the antenna, which provides superior operation at a given time.

A mixer circuit is provided for receiving first and second input signals to be mixed and for producing a mixed output signal. The mixer circuit comprises a pair of switching transistors each of which having first, second and third terminals. The mixer circuit further comprises a single ended input connected to the first terminals of the pair of switching transistors, a local oscillator input connected to the second terminals of the pair of switching transistors for controlling the switching of the transistors, a serial capacitor connected in serial connection between the single ended input and the first terminals of the pair of switching transistors, a pair of output capacitors each of which being connected to a third terminal of the pair of switching transistors. Said third terminals of said pair of switching transistors forming an output port. The mixer circuit provides a mixer schematic with improved noise performance.
