A disposable patch pump may be provided with a filling adapter, to ensure filling by an authorized user. The adapter mates with the pump and a source of medicament, such as an insulin vial, to prevent filling the pump directly with a conventional syringe. The adapter and/or pump filling port may be configured with a frangible element, to limit the system to single use.

A fluid medicament delivery device includes a patient attachment unit and a separate indicator unit. The patient attachment unit includes a housing and a fluid channel located therein, wherein at least a portion of the fluid channel includes a flexible member substantially coterminous with the housing. The separate indicator unit is adapted to be detachably coupled to the housing of the patient attachment unit and includes a first sensing element for contacting the flexible member when the indicator unit is coupled to the housing to sense a flexure of the flexible member.

A cannula insertion device includes a housing defining an opening for receiving therethrough a cannula and further defining a channel, and a cannula forming a lumen, the cannula adapted for sliding movement within the housing from a retracted position to an extended position. When the cannula is in the retracted position, the lumen is located remotely from the channel and the channel is in fluidic communication with the opening. When the cannula is in the extended position, the lumen is in fluidic communication with the channel.

Cannula insertion device and related methods

A manually actuated pump, such as a bolus delivery circuit of an insulin pump, combines a direct drive piston system with a lost motion valve system, to deliver reliably a full bolus dose, while precluding partial dosing or inadvertent overdosing conditions. The pump may also include a signaling device to indicate when a full bolus dose is delivered.

Methods and systems for dosing a medicament

A method is described for reducing a dead volume of a microfluidic circuit that includes, in one embodiment, a reservoir, an outlet, and a microfluidic flowpath fluidly connecting the reservoir and the outlet. The method includes providing a microfluidic flow component between the reservoir and the outlet for performing a function and in fluidic communication with the microfluidic flowpath, wherein the microfluidic flow component includes a total volume including a working volume and a dead volume. The working volume is a volume necessary for the microfluidic flow component to perform the function and the dead volume is a volume unnecessary for the microfluidic flow component to perform the function. The method includes configuring at least one of the reservoir, the microfluidic flowpath, and the microfluidic flow component to reduce the dead volume, such that the working volume of the component is substantially the same as the total volume.

Low-dead volume microfluidic circuit and methods

In a capillary carrier with an inlet and an outlet, a channel is formed and extends between the inlet and the outlet. At least one capillary tube is arranged within the channel, and sealing elements, by which the capillary tube is sealingly fixed to the channel, are arranged at least near an inlet portion and an outlet portion of the capillary tube. An area is formed limited by a part of the channel, the sealing elements and the exterior of the capillary tube, which is in connection with the exterior of the carrier through a fluid communication pad, whereby a possible fluid leak across the sealing elements will be led to this area, and from there to the exterior of the carrier.
