An arrangement in a curtain coater for starting and stopping coating of a web, having a reservoir and a connected surface extending over the web toward the curtain to collect the coating as the coater moves over the web to start coating the web. A cover plate that swing around a cross-direction shaft connected to the cover plate. In one embodiment the shaft also moves in the machine direction. The cover plate is used to protect an leading edge of the collecting surface from being covered with coating and pivots to be cleaned with fluid which may be supply from the shaft. The cover plate is arranged so the fluid drain off the cover plate onto the collecting surface or reservoir. When clean, the cover plate is repositioned to protect an leading edge of the collecting surface during the next start or stop operation of coating the web.

Arrangement in connection with curtain coating of a fibrous web

A curtain coating device for paper and board machines has a nozzle beam () with a nozzle lip () with an edge strip () for feeding the coating color curtain and edge guides () located along each edge of the nozzle lips () controlling the width of the coating color curtain. The edge guide () has upper and lower ends. Flow surfaces () extend in a substantially vertical direction parallel and next to each other. The edge guide has a lubrication feed (), additional lubrication feeds () and a suction opening (). The flow surfaces () are inclined toward each other forming a flow guide recess () which extends in a vertical direction such that the form of the flow surfaces () with the flow guide recess () is concave. A protrusion () extends within the recess in the direction of the flow guide recess ().

Curtain coating device

A coating device and method for coating a fiber web for applying coating color onto a fiber web has a nozzle unit with at least one nozzle part (), a feeding chamber () and at least one equalizing chamber ('), a feed hole () between the feeding chamber () and the first equalizing chamber (), and a nozzle slot (&#x2032;) from which the coating color is discharged through the nozzle slot (&#x2032;) outlet opening (). A mixing chamber () between the outlet area of the feed hole () and the equalizing chamber () functions as a means for distributing uniformly the inhomogeneous coating color flow entering the equalizing chamber () from the feed hole (). The coating from the feed hole is directed to a wall () of mixing chambers () which distribute uniformly the coating entering the equalizing chamber ().

Coating device for applying coating color onto a fiber web and method for coating of a fiber web

A method and apparatus for exhausting gas from a coating material. The coating material is fed in the bottom part area of a drum () rotating around an essentially vertical axis inside a vacuum tank (), whereby the rotating motion of the drum causes the coating material to rise up the inner wall of the drum and to discharge from the upper edge of the drum as a thin film against the inner wall of a vacuum tank, wherefrom the coating material flows downwards. The coating material is arranged to rise up the wall of the drum stepwise, so that the coating material will form a thin veil-like film on at least two different step levels (-), whereupon the gas bubbles in the coating material will break and be discharged from the coating material.

Method and arrangement for exhausting gas from a coating material

A coating apparatus, has a nozzle unit () with at least one feeding chamber () extending in the longitudinal direction (W) of the coating apparatus. Coating color is conveyed into the chamber by feeding means (), and a nozzle slot () in flow communication with the said feeding chamber, the slot also extending in the longitudinal direction (W) of the coating apparatus. The flow communication between the at least one feeding chamber () and the nozzle slot () is formed by feed holes () made in one wall of the feeding chamber, through which the coating color can be conveyed to the nozzle slot. The nozzle unit has means () by which the effective area of the feed holes () can be adjusted in order to accomplish transverse profiling of the amount of coating color.
