The invention relates to a roll for use in a manufacture of a fibrous web, which comprises cellulosic fibers. The roll comprises a roll body with a cylindrical surface, and a roll cover, which is arranged to cover the cylindrical surface of the roll body. The cover has a functional layer, which has a polymer matrix and reinforcing material in the form of functional particles and/or functional fibers embedded in the polymer matrix. The functional particles and/or functional fibers has nanocellulose material. The invention relates also to the use of the roll.

A method for monitoring a machine element in a paper finishing machine (). The machine element mounted for rotation machine elements (-) equipped with a sensor assembly () measuring force or pressure, and a counter-pair () for said machine element. Method, system and a computer program product for condition monitoring of a fiber web or paper finishing machine

The invention relates to a method for monitoring the condition of a continuous element () moving in a fiber web or paper finishing machine, said monitoring being performed with a rotating machine element (), which is equipped with a sensor assembly () that measures force or pressure and against which the continuous element moves. In the method, the machine element is made to rotate against the continuous element, a measurement signal () is generated between the machine element and the continuous element with the sensor assembly, and a cross-directional profile () of force or pressure generated between the machine element and the continuous element is formed from the measurement signal. Said moving continuous element is a fabric () installed in a fabric run () traveling via the machine element. In the method, the fabric is additionally installed in a fabric run, wherein it moves via said machine element equipped with a sensor assembly, a reference profile () is formed for the cross-directional profile after installing the fabric in the fabric run, the cross-directional profile formed from the measurement signal and representing force or pressure generated between the machine element and the fabric is compared with the reference profile, and information () is produced from the comparison for monitoring the condition of the fabric. Method, system and a computer program product for condition monitoring of a continuous element moving in a fiber web or paper finishing machine

A perforated roll () of a fiber web machine includes a roll shell (), holes () extending through the roll shell, and a sensing system () arranged in the roll shell. The sensing system () includes at least one pair of leads (), to which one or more sensors () have been connected. At least one pair of leads is composed of flat leads (), which are arranged in the roll shell side by side. A prefabricated sensor sheet () may be prepared for a perforated roll of a fiber web machine, such that holes may be drilled therethrough to communicate with the roll shell holes ().

A method and apparatus are set forth for controlling and actuator in a moving web manufacturing process. The method includes: (1) measuring a plurality of actuator profiles and in response generating nominal response models thereof; (2) generating a multivariable profile prediction based on the nominal response models; (3) generating a multivariable control target based at least one of the actuator profile; and (4) adjusting control of the actuator by minimizing error between the multivariable control target and the multivariable profile prediction.

Method and apparatus for reel building and roll runnability in moving web manufacturing

Optical radiation sources functioning on different optical bands radiate on different optical bands and focus optical radiation on a region in a web surface as pulses in such a manner that illumination areas of the pulses overlap on the plane of the web. At most one optical radiation band is focused on the web from the direction of the normal. The spatial intensity distribution of at least one optical band differs from the uniform distribution and the intensity distributions of at least two different optical bands differ from one another in a predetermined manner. A camera forms still images of the web surface region on each optical radiation band. An image-processing unit determines the surface topography of the web on the basis of the images. In addition, a controller may control the paper manufacturing process on the basis of the determined surface topography.

A method and a system to control a reeling profile of a material web reel (), when, in the forming of a material web reel (), a web is reeled around a reeling core and when in an adjustment of CD-directional profiles of the web reel, profiling devices () have been applied. For adjusting quality profiles and reeling profiles of the web, profiling devices are managed with the help of profile measurings of the roller nip and/or of the profile measurings of the reel (), which are obtained from the reel-up (). A measuring device () for a measuring of a CD-directional hardness profile of the fiber web reel includes a measuring head (), which is connected with a loading means (), which loads the measuring head against the fiber web reel. The motion course of the measuring head is linear.

A processing device and method applying the same for processing a coated or uncoated fibrous web is provided. The device comprises a belt configured to extend around a guiding element, at least one counter-element being disposed outside said belt to provide a contact area with the belt, such that the belt and the counter-element establish therebetween a web processing zone for passing a web to be processed therethrough. The processing zone length is defined by the disposition of the belt's guiding element and/or by the configuration of the counter-elements. The contact pressure applied to a web in the processing zone is within the range of between about 0.01 MPa and about 200 MPa.

A method for controlling the moisture profile of a paper web or board web processed in a heated multi-roll calendar to optimize the qualities of the paper or board, especially gloss. The method is characterized in that the moisture measurement is carried out both on either surface of the web and as a through-measurement, and the measurement results thus obtained are specified by a thermodynamic model which calculates the moisture of the web in three layers, and that the results thus obtained are used for controlling the supply of moisture to the web.

Tension variations in the paper web on a paper machine are caused by successive draws and moisture fluctuations. Good strength properties require optimization of the draws. In addition, the tension variation induced by moisture must be minimized. The analysis of local modulus and the strain components can be used for determining optimal locations for profiling actuators in order to achieve good tension profile. Longitudinal strain components of the web, i.e. reversible elastic strain, permanent plastic strain and frozen-in strain relievable with water are continuously measured and determined and the variation of said longitudinal components is minimized by correcting the moisture content of the paper web in a dryer section of the paper machine and/or by optimizing the draws between dryer groups in the dryer section.
