A magnetic head having a sliding surface () on which a magnetic recording medium is slid, a magnetic gap g formed in the sliding surface for exchanging information signals with the magnetic recording medium, a track width controlling portion for prescribing a track width Tw of the magnetic gap g, with the track width controlling portion being formed by abutting a pair of magnetic core halves () together, there being track width controlling grooves (to) formed in each of the magnetic core halves, metal magnetic films (to) provided in association with the magnetic gap g and with the track width controlling portion, and a groove () formed in at least one end of the magnetic gap g for extending substantially parallel to the sliding direction of the magnetic recording medium. A length L in &#x3bc;m between a first point of intersection P between the track width controlling groove () formed in one of the magnetic core halves () and one lateral edge of the groove () and a second point of intersection Q between the magnetic gap g and the other lateral edge of the groove is related with an intensity of the recording current I [mA] by L&#x2267;11.3&#xd7;ln I&#x2212;21.9. With the magnetic head, demagnetization produced in the recording track of the magnetic tape is prevented from being produced.

A magnetic head in which a pair of magnetic core halves each having a winding slot for placing a coil are abutted and unified to each other by thin magnetic metal films interposed in-between, and in which a magnetic gap is formed between abutting surfaces of the magnetic core halves. A bend is formed in the winding slot for bending the thin magnetic metal film at an acute angle when seen in cross-section. The magnetic head has a structure for prohibiting peeling of the thin magnetic metal film.

A magnetic head comprises a head base (56), and a pair of magnetic head chips (57, 58) of different azimuth angles (.theta..sub.1, .theta..sub.2) disposed on the head base (56). The pair of magnetic head chips (57, 58) are disposed in a stepped arrangement with respect to the direction of arrangement of tracks on a magnetic recording medium with a step (DA) substantially equal to the pitch (P) of tracks on the magnetic recording medium. The gap distance (GL) between the magnetic gaps of the magnetic head chips (57, 58) is shorter than the sum of the step (D) between adjacent tracks and the length (L) of interblock gap regions between video signal regions and audio signal regions arranged along the direction of the movement of the magnetic head. The magnetic head permits satisfactory audio signal after-recording and extended recording and reproducing of digital video signals on the magnetic recording medium even if the magnetic recording medium is a narrow magnetic tape of 8 mm or less in width.

A magnetic head having a pair of magnetic core halves, at least one of which is formed of a magnetic oxide material portion, a winding groove and a magnetic metal thin film formed on a surface having the winding groove of the magnetic oxide material portion, which are abutted so that a magnetic gap is formed on an abutment surface of the magnetic metal thin film, wherein an entire surface of the winding groove is slanted with angles of 0.degree. to 60.degree. with respect to gap surfaces constituting the magnetic gap.

Each of a pair of magnetic core halves includes a substrate and a thin magnetic metal film formed on the substrate. The substrate is notched with a winding groove. The pair of the magnetic core halves are integrally bonded to each other so that a gap filling film is formed between the facing surfaces of the thin magnetic metal films. The zero depth position of the magnetic gap which is determined by the length of the facing thin magnetic metal films is offset to a magnetic recording medium sliding surface of the magnetic head from the notching start position of the winding groove on the side of the magnetic gap. Hence, the shape of the thin magnetic metal film exposed on the magnetic recording medium sliding surface is maintained constant from the initial position to the depth zero position.

A magnetic head is disclosed which is formed by magnetic core halves constituted of an oxide magnetic material and soft magnetic thin films, wherein the boundary surfaces between the thin films and the oxide magnetic material runs substantially parallel to the gap surface in the vicinity of the magnetic gap. The soft magnetic thin films are soft magnetic thin films of the Fe-Ga-Si system consisting essentially of Fe, Ga and Si.

A magnetic transducer head in which the magnetic core elements of ferromagnetic oxides are sliced obliquely across the junction surface of the core elements, ferromagnetic metal thin films are formed on the resulting inclined surfaces by employing a physical vapor deposition, and the core elements are placed with the respective ferromagnetic metal thin films abutting to each other for defining a magnetic gap therebetween, wherein the improvement consists in that said inclined surfaces with the ferromagnetic metal thin films formed thereon are inclined at a preset angle with the magnetic gap forming surface, in that non-magnetic films having high-hardness are interposed between the ferromagnetic oxide and the ferromagnetic metal thin films, and in that said ferromagnetic metal thin films and the oxide glass fillers are provided on the tape abutment surface by the intermediary of the non-magnetic film having high-hardness. The provision of the non-magnetic film having high-hardness between the ferromagnetic oxide and the ferromagnetic metal thin film is effective to inhibit the reaction otherwise occurring between the oxide and the films, while positively preventing the formation of the boundary layer with inferior magnetic properties. Likewise, the provision of the non-magnetic film having high-hardness between the ferromagnetic metal thin film and the oxide glass is effective to prevent the erosion of the film by the molten glass, while also improving the molten glass fluidity. It should be noted that the non-magnetic films having high-hardness may be provided on the interface only between the core elements and the metal thin films or on the interface only between the metal thin films and the oxide glass.

Magnetic transducer head with inclined magnetic gap

A magnetic transducer head wherein confronting surfaces of a pair of magnetic core parts comprised of a ferromagnetic oxide material are notched, and the notch defining surfaces have metallic ferromagnetic layers supported thereby. The method of physical vapor deposition as known per se is used for forming these layers. The transducer coupling gap of each magnetic head is defined by an aligned pair of pole piece layers formed from the deposited metallic ferromagnetic material. The pole piece layers are inclined at a preset angle with respect to the plane of the coupling gap, and have extensions formed of the deposited metallic ferromagnetic material presenting bend contours between the pole piece layers and the lateral sides of the core parts.

Magnetic transducer head

A magnetic transducer head comprising a first magnetic core element and a second magnetic core element, each of the first and second core elements comprising a magnetic ferrite block and a magnetic metal thin film integrated with the magnetic ferrite block. These core elements having a first planar surface and a second planar surface. The magnetic metal thin film being provided on the second planar surface and having an edge thereof facing to the first planar surface, and the second planar surface being slantly provided with respect to said first planar surface. These core elements being bonded together to form an operating magnetic gap between the edge of the magnetic metal thin film on the first core element and the edge of the magnetic metal thin film on the second core element. The magnetic metal thin film on the first core element or the magnetic thin film on the second core element is formed in one common plane. The magnetic metal thin film may be formed of the ferromagnetic metals including Fe--Al--Si alloys, amorphous metal alloys or permalloy. And the magnetic metal thin film having substantially uniform columnar grain structure or uniform magnetic anisotropy, over entire area of the film.
