The invention provides a continuous process for producing polymer-shell nanoparticles, especially in the form of aqueous dispersions, using a high-pressure homogenizer.

Process for producing polymer-shell nanoparticles

Method of producing a nanoparticle suspension with the steps (i) preparation of an emulsion of a disperse polar phase, where the aqueous phase comprises one or more precursor substances forming the nanoparticles, in a continuous organic phase in the presence of an emulsifier stabilizing the emulsion, (ii) conversion of the one or more precursor substances to nanoparticles in the disperse aqueous phase, (iii) breaking of the emulsion and phase separation, where the nanoparticle suspension is obtained as one phase, (iv) separation off of the nanoparticle suspension, (v) optionally isolation of the nanoparticles from the nanoparticle suspension, wherein the emulsifier is selected from compounds of the general formula (I) in which X is O, NH, Y is C(O), NH, R is a saturated or a mono- or polyunsaturated, linear or branched hydrocarbon radical having 6 to 30 carbon atoms and Ris hydrogen or C-C-alkyl, and Ris a saturated or a mono- or polyunsaturated, linear or branched hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 30 carbon atoms, preferably 6 to 30 carbon atoms, Ris C-C-alkyl, n is 0 or 1, and the breaking of the emulsion is effected by splitting the emulsifier.

The present invention relates to a process for the production of nanoparticles or nanostructured particles with the help of a 2-emulsion method, particles being produced through targeted coalescence of miniemulsions in a high-pressure homogenized.

Process for the production of nanoparticles using miniemulsions

The object of the invention is a method for the dispersion of reactive monomers, wherein a monomer emulsion () is fed at a first pressure through a dispersion jet () and a second dispersion () is fed laterally behind the dispersion jet at a second pressure that is less than the first pressure, both the emulsion and the dispersion being dispersed with one another in a mixing chamber. Using the method, nanoparticle-laden monomer emulsions may be produced that, after polymerization, produce polymer-coated nanoparticles.
