Disclosed is a method of drawing a metal wire to a specified diameter using a continuous dry drawing apparatus including a plurality of die units disposed in series, each of the die unit being composed of a dry lubricant unit for applying a dry lubricant on the surface of a metal wire and a die provided on the downstream side of the dry lubricant unit, the method comprising an intermediate coating process of forming a coating film on the surface of the metal wire for enhancing the picking-up of a dry lubricant for subsequent die-drawing, in at least one of the spaces between adjacent die units. With this method, seizure of the die is prevented and the drawing speed is significantly enhanced.

Continuous dry drawing method and apparatus therefor

An apparatus for processing a vibratory surface in which a processed object is hung on a hook, the hook is supported by the supporting frame having an air spring, the object is immersed in a surface treating liquid. The height of the air spring is automatically adjusted to the most suitable standard height in response to a weight of the processed object and then the surface treatment is carried out while the hook is being vibrated. An apparatus for performing this vibratory surface treatment method is provided.

Method for processing a vibratory surface

A coil of tapered wire for forming coil springs, formed by winding substantially in concentric loops a quench-hardened and tempered tapered wire having a successive arrangement of tapered wire segments each consisting of a thick section, two thin sections and two tapered sections connecting the thin sections to the opposite ends of the thick section, respectively. The tapered wire is subjected to a preforming action immediately before being wound in loops on a winding drum, to form plastic bends in the thick sections and plastic bends of a radius of curvature greater than that of the plastic bends in the thick sections so that the tapered wire is wound in substantially uniform, concentric circular loops on a winding drum. When the tapered wire is unwound from the coil and is subjected to a straightening process of a fixed straightening arrangement of a series of straightener rollers before being coiled in tapered wire coil springs on a coil spring forming mill, the thick sections undergo a straightening action greater than that acts on the thin sections, so that which the tapered wire unwound from the coil of tapered wire is straightened in a substantially straight tapered wire and thereby the tapered wire is coiled in tapered wire coil springs having a correct size and a uniform shape.

A tapered rod producing process by which a tapered rod having a profile very near to an aimed profile can be produced with high accuracy. According to the process, during working of a wire diameter gradually decreasing portion of a tapered rod in which the diameter of a stock gradually decreases in a feeding direction of the stock, the drawing length of the stock from starting to ending of acceleration of variable speed feeding mechanism is made greater than predetermined length of the wire diameter gradually decreasing portion, and during working of a wire diameter gradually increasing portion in which the diameter of the stock gradually increases, the drawing length of the stock from starting to completion of deceleration of the variable speed feeding mechanism is made smaller than an a desired length of the wire diameter gradually increasing portion of the tapered rod.

Production of a taper rod

A material for steel wool is disclosed which essentially consists of 0.05 to 0.20% of C, up to 0.10% of Si, 0.50 to 1.30% of Mn, 0.035 to 0.10% of P, up to 0.04% of S,0.05 to 0.15% of N and the balance Fe. In this material, Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 inclusions with sizes not smaller than 3 microns are suppressed to a level not greater than 20 ppm and when the content of the Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 inclusions (3 microns and over) is in the range of 5 to 20 ppm, Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 inclusions with a size ranging from 3 to 10 microns is contained in an amount not smaller than 30% of the total content of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 inclusions with sizes not smaller than 3 microns.
