A device and a method for outputting navigation information for a vehicle are provided. Position data, destination data, and parking data containing information relating to at least two parking space positions and the availability of parking spaces at the at least two parking space positions can be provided via an input interface. A data processing device is configured to determine an order in which at least some of the at least two parking space positions should be approached based on the provided position data, destination data and parking data in such a manner that the determined order meets an optimization criterion. The data processing device is also configured to check whether the optimization criterion can be met by waiting at the at least one parking space position or by returning to a parking space position to be approached before the at least one parking space position.

Processing position data relating to a vehicle, in order to determine the start of a search for a parking space, includes determining an end position and determining at least one inefficiency value by comparing at least part of a drive with at least one linear distance to the end position, wherein the at least one inefficiency value identifies an inefficiency of the drive. The process further includes determining at least one route inefficiency value based on position data from a map to verify an identified inefficiency for at least one position for which an inefficiency has been identified. A method for processing measurement data of a vehicle for determining the start of a search for a parking space includes acquiring journey data vectors, each containing information about a speed, position data and a time of acquisition of the speed and the position data, and establishing a feature vector at each time of acquisition of the journey data vectors, where the information about a current and a previous journey data vector is processed, and where the feature vector comprises as feature components at least one item of speed information and one item of path information. A method is provided for providing parking information regarding free parking spaces within at least one city block. The method provides for detecting information regarding available, free parking spaces, wherein a knowledge database with historical data is generated from the detected information. The historical data for specified city blocks and/or specified times or periods of time respectively comprise statistical data regarding free parking spaces. From the historical data and current information that are detected by vehicles in traffic for a first given point in time for a single or a plurality of selected city blocks, a probability distribution of free parking spaces to be expected for the single or the plurality of city blocks is determined. A visualization of the probability distribution is generated that represents the parking information regarding free parking spaces within the single or the plurality of city blocks.

During the recognized holding phase, the acquired speeds having the speed value in the predefined range around the value zero are not taken into consideration for a predefined non-consideration number of speed acquisition periods with respect to the adaptation of the second count.

Method and apparatus for determining traffic status

According to a method for creating a model for a travel time database, a leg network comprising leg sections between a starting point and a destination point are analyzed. Multiple routes are ascertained between the starting and destination points. Each leg section of a route is associated with a relative travel time loss and is weighted. The ascertained travel time losses and the associated weightings are used as input data for a learning method by way of which an existing knowledge base is iteratively expanded.
