A liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal display panel having a first substrate and a second substrate. An upper polarizer is disposed on an outer surface of the first substrate. A viewing angle control film is disposed on the upper polarizer. The viewing angle control film includes a polarizing layer having a transmission axis substantially parallel to a transmission axis of the upper polarizer and a phase retardation layer including a birefringence material having an optical axis with a poloidal angle of about 40 degrees to about 75 degrees.

A polarizer includes a first laminated structure having a first layer with a first refractive index and a second layer with a second refractive index, wherein the first and second refractive indices are different from each other. A buffer layer is disposed on the first laminated structure. A second laminated structure in the polarizer has a third layer with a third refractive index and a fourth layer with a fourth refractive index, wherein the third and fourth refractive indices are different from each other.

A three-dimensional image display apparatus includes a display panel configured to display an image and a shutter panel configured to separate the image into a left-eye image and a right-eye image. The shutter panel includes a first thin-film substrate disposed adjacent to the display panel, a second thin-film substrate facing the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. Three-dimensional image display apparatus including shutter panel

A display device includes a display panel, a polarization film, and a wave plate. Below the wave plate and the polarization film there is provided a plurality of optical sensors disposed within the display panel. The display panel includes first and second substrates facing each other and a plurality of pixels configured to display an image. The optical sensors are configured to sense light in one or more predetermined light bands. The wave plate is configured to rotate polarization of first light that has passed upwardly through the polarization film such that the combination of upward and downward (reflected) passage of the light is rotated by about 90 degrees. The so-rotated light is blocked from passing down through the polarization film; advantageously, the so-rotated light is prevented from interfering with the optical sensors.

The disclosure describes a liquid crystal display panel including a plurality of sub-pixels, a plurality of thin film transistors, a plurality of data lines, and a plurality of gate lines. Each of the sub-pixels has first and second gray scale regions which are split up and down and have different areas, first and second gray scale regions of one sub-pixel having a staggered arrangement with respect to those of an adjacent sub-pixel. Thin film transistors are connected to first and second gray scale regions so that first gray scale regions are driven when one of gate lines is driven and the second gray scale regions are driven when another gate line is driven.

Liquid crystal display panel, method for driving the same, and liquid crystal display apparatus using the same

A thin film transistor substrate and a liquid crystal display capable of eliminating residual images and enhancing clarity are presented. The thin film transistor substrate includes a charge-up capacitor for increasing electric charge in a first pixel electrode of a first pixel capacitor and a charge-down capacitor decreasing electric charge in a second pixel electrode of a second pixel capacitor. An extension electrode portion of the charge-up capacitor is formed in the shape of a frame to reduce any variation in the overlapping area between the first pixel electrode and the extension electrode portion caused by an alignment error generated during the manufacturing process.

A liquid crystal display panel includes a plurality of sub-pixels, a plurality of thin film transistors, a plurality of data lines, and a plurality of gate lines.
