A liquid crystal display includes a first substrate and a second substrate facing each other; a switching element disposed on the first substrate; a pixel electrode connected to the switching element and supplied with a data voltage; an opposing electrode disposed on the second substrate; and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate and including liquid crystal molecules. The pixel electrode includes a cutout and a liquid crystal direction controller that are alternately disposed. The cutout and the liquid crystal direction controller divide the pixel electrode into a plurality of sub-regions, and inclination directions of the liquid crystal molecules are different according to the plurality of sub-regions when the pixel electrode is supplied with the data voltage. The liquid crystal direction controller is concave downward or convex upward with respect to a surface of the first substrate.

A liquid crystal display having a touch screen panel (TSP) function includes a sensor unit formed on the first substrate; a first sensor wire disposed on the first substrate and a second sensor wire extending perpendicular to the first sensor wire, wherein the sensor unit includes a first sensor electrode connected to the first sensor wire and a second sensor electrode connected to the second sensor wire, wherein said first sensor electrode and said second sensor electrode connect when touched, and said first and second sensor wires confirm a touch position by transmitting a sensing current through the connection between the first sensor electrode and the second sensor electrode, a trench is formed near the sensor unit and a silicon protrusion pattern to increase the sensitivity of the touch screen panel.

A display panel includes a gate line, a data line, a pixel electrode formed adjacent to the gate and data lines on a lower substrate and a first alignment film disposed in a first domain disposed on the pixel electrode and in a second domain formed on pixel electrode. The first domain is aligned in a first direction and the second domain is aligned in a second direction which is different from the first direction. The upper substrate opposes the lower substrate and includes a common electrode disposed on the upper substrate and a second alignment film disposed on the common electrode at a third domain corresponding to the first domain and at a fourth domain corresponding to the second domain. The liquid crystal layer is disposed between the lower substrate and the upper substrate and includes liquid crystals defined by a plurality of pixel areas.

A display substrate includes a base substrate, a reflective layer, a common electrode and a pixel electrode. The base substrate includes a pixel area having a transmissive area and a reflective area. The reflective layer is disposed in the reflective area of the base substrate. The common electrode includes a first sub-common electrode formed in the reflective area and a second sub-common electrode formed in the transmissive area. The pixel electrode includes a first sub-pixel electrode spaced apart from the first sub-common electrode by a first distance in the reflective area, and a second sub-pixel electrode spaced apart from the second sub-common electrode by a second distance less than the first distance in the transmissive area.

A display substrate includes a switching element and a pixel electrode. The pixel electrode is electrically connected to the switching element. The pixel electrode includes a plurality of slit electrodes that are conductive elements respectively disposed in a plurality of domains oriented substantially parallel to each other and extending substantially in a first direction. The slit electrodes each extend in a direction different from the first direction. Each slit electrode is an elongated structure having first and second long sides, and first and second short sides positioned opposite to each other and each extending between the first and second long sides, where the first long side oriented at an angle with respect to the first direction that is different from that of the second long side. Thus, a plurality of domains is formed, so that generation of texture may be decreased and compensating efficiency may be enhanced.

A gate line and a data line are formed on a base substrate. A first sensor line is parallel with the gate line. A sensor gate electrode is extended from the first sensor line. A sensor active pattern having a plurality of island-type sub-active members is formed on the first sensor gate electrode. A second sensor line is parallel with the data line. A first sensor drain electrode is extended from the second sensor line at the sensor active pattern. A second sensor drain electrode corresponding to the first sensor gate electrode is formed on the sensor active pattern. A pixel electrode is electrically connected to the gate line and the data line. A sensor electrode part electrically connects the first and second sensor drain electrodes spaced apart from the pixel electrode. Light is reflected by the first and second sensor drain electrodes, which have an embossed shape.
