A method of processing an image is disclosed. The method comprises obtaining an image decomposed into a set of scaled images, each being characterized by a different image-scale; and calculating, for each of at least some scaled images, a relative luminance between the scaled image and another scaled image of the set, using intensities in the scaled image and intensities in the another scaled image. The method further comprises processing each scaled image using an adaptation procedure featuring an image-specific effective saturation function of the relative luminance, thereby providing a processed scaled image; combining at least some of the processed scaled images to provide a combined image; and outputting the combined image to a computer readable medium.

Method and system for processing an image featuring multiple scales

A method of processing an image having a plurality of picture-elements is disclosed. The method comprises: preprocessing the image to selectively enhance contrast of some picture-elements of the image, and employing a companding procedure for the preprocessed image, thereby providing a processed image. The contrast enhancement optionally and preferably features a mapping function having a plateau region for diminishing image data with intensity levels below an intensity threshold, thereby providing a preprocessed image.

Method and system for processing an image

A method of processing a polychromatic image is disclosed. The method comprises, for each of at least a portion of the picture elements, assigning to the picture element a new color value for each individual color, and storing the new values in a computer readable medium. The new values are assigned by: processing each of a first and a second colors of the picture element, based, at least in part on first and second colors of peripheral picture elements, to respectively provide a first processed color value and a second processed color value; employing optimization for reducing error and for assigning to the picture element a new color value for each of the first and second colors; and assigning to the picture element a new color value for a third color calculated based, at least in part, on the new color values for the first and second colors.

The method comprises preprocessing the image using contrast enhancement weight function, thereby providing a preprocessed image having a first dynamic range; and applying a companding procedure to the preprocessed image, so as to reduce the first dynamic range.

A method suitable for processing a digital image is disclosed. The method comprises, for each picture element of the digital image, processing an achromatic intensity level of the picture element using a first adaptation procedure featuring a first effective saturation function of the achromatic intensity, to provide a first intermediate intensity level. The method further comprises processing the achromatic intensity level using a second adaptation procedure featuring a second effective saturation function of the achromatic intensity, to provide a second intermediate intensity level. Method of and apparatus for processing images using saturation functions

A method of modulating a dynamic range of a plurality of picture elements each containing image information. The method comprises: (a) inputting the plurality of picture elements and extracting, from the image information of a picture element of the plurality of picture elements an intensity level being in a first dynamic range; and (b) for the picture element: (i) defining a surrounding region of picture elements and a remote region of picture elements; (ii) selecting at least one adaptation weight-function; and (iii) using the at least one adaptation weight-function and intensity levels of each picture element of the surrounding and the remote regions, for assigning a new intensity level to the picture element, the new intensity level being in a second dynamic range, thereby modulating the dynamic range of the plurality of picture elements.

Method of and device for modulating a dynamic range of still and video images

A method for providing partial color constancy of a stimulus represented by an array of picture elements each represented by a color spectrum. The method comprising: (a) assigning to each picture element in the array, for each color, a color value, thereby to provide a plurality of pre-processed single color images each respectively arranged as a series of pre-processed color values one at each picture element; (b) for each picture element, defining at least two regions of picture elements; (c) at each picture element, adapting each one of the pre-processed color values using pre-processed color values from at least one of the two regions of picture elements, thereby to form, at each picture element, a set of center response values; and (d) at each picture element, transforming the set of center response values into a set of center corrected color values, using response values from the two regions of picture elements to provide a plurality of processed single color images having partial color constancy.

Method for improved automatic partial color constancy correction

A method for automatic partial correction of the color contrast and intensity of color images. The images are processed in a manner similar to that by which the visual system processes signals related to color vision, to achieve better color contrast and to enhance achromatic contrast intensity for both still and video images.
