Disclosed is a novel tetrablock copolymer having the general configuration of A1-B1-A2-B2, where the A1 and A2 blocks are mono alkenyl arene and the B1 and B2 blocks are blocks of hydrogenated butadiene, having a 1,2-vinyl content of between 25% and 60%. The blocks have well defined molecular weight ranges, resulting in a polymer having a unique set of property advantages. Also disclosed are elastomeric compositions containing the linear hydrogenated block copolymer, a styrene polymer, an ethylene polymer and a tackifying resin. These elastomeric compositions have particular utility in injection molded parts and in extruded parts such as extruded films and fibers.

Tetrablock copolymer and compositions containing same

Thermoplastic polyurethanes are formed from a hydrogenated polydiene diol having from 1.6 to 2 terminal hydroxyl groups per molecule and a number average molecular weight between 500 and 20,000, an isocyanate having two isocyanate groups per molecule, and optionally a chain extender having two hydroxyl groups per molecule. The thermoplastic polyurethanes have excellent resistance to moisture as evidenced by retention of more than 70%, preferably at least 85%, of original tensile strength after aging in water for 7 days at a temperature of at least 70.degree. C. Preparation by a prepolymer method with subsequent addition of the chain extender is preferred.

Polyurethanes having improved moisture resistance

There is provided a high resilience polyurethane foam produced from a polydiene diol having a number average molecular weight from 1,000 to 20,000 and a functionality of from 1.6 to 2, an aromatic polyisocyanate, and oil. The polydiene diol foams have excellent processability, producing high resilience foams having small cell size and uniform cell size distributions.

Resilient polyurethane foams of polydiene diols and oil

Thermoplastic polyurethanes are formed from a polydiene diol, preferably a hydrogenated polybutadiene diol, having from 1.6 to 2 terminal hydroxyl groups per molecule and a number average molecular weight between 500 and 20,000, an isocyanate having two isocyanate groups per molecule, and optionally a chain extender having two hydroxyl groups per molecule. The thermoplastic polyurethane composition is prepared by a prepolymer method. preferably a solventless prepolymer method using the branched chain extender.

Use of polydiene diols in thermoplastic polyurethanes

There is provided a weatherable polyurethane foam produced from a polydiene diol having a number average molecular weight from 1,000 to 20,000 and a functionality of from 1.6 to 2, an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic polyisocyanate, and a stabilizer. The polydiene diol foams have excellent stability under sunlight exposure.

Weatherable resilient polyurethane foams

There is provided a high resilience polyurethane foam adhesive produced from a polydiene diol having a number average molecular weight from 1,000 to 20,000 and a functionality of from 1.6 to 2, an aromatic polyisocyanate, a tackifying resin and oil. In another embodiment, there is provided a polyurethane foam adhesive produced from a blend of a polydiene diol and a polydiene mono-ol, an aromatic polyisocyanate, and a tackifying resin.

Resilient polyurethane foams of polydiene diols and tackifying resin

Polyurethane foams having high resilience, significantly improved humid aging, excellent tear strength, and light color are formed from a polydiene diol, preferably a hydrogenated polybutadiene diol, having a hydroxyl functionality from 1.6 to 2.0 and from an aromatic polyisocyanate having an isocyanate functionality of from 1.8 to 2.5. The polydiene diol is preferably blended with foaming agents prior to addition of the highly reactive polyisocyanate.
