A spike resistant package containing a pouch, a first grouping of spike resistant textile layers, and a slip layer. The first grouping of spike resistant textile layers contains a plurality of spike resistant textile layers, where each spike resistant textile layer contains a plurality of interwoven yarns or fibers having a tenacity of about 14 or more grams per denier. The slip layer is a woven or knit fabric containing a main portion and a first pile portion on the upper surface of the main portion. The slip layer contains a plurality of yarns knitted or woven together and a plurality of holes between the yarns. The holes of the slip layer have an average max hole size of less than about 2 mm. The yarns and fibers in the pile portion are in loops or strands extending outward from the main portion of the slip layer.

Spike resistant package and article

A fire resistant composite containing an inner core having an upper surface and a lower surface and a plurality of fabric layers. Each fabric layer contains a plurality of interwoven tape elements with a base layer of a strain oriented thermoplastic polymer disposed between covering layers of a heat fusible polymer. The fire resistant composite contains a first flame stable thermally conductive layer on the upper surface of the inner core having a high flame stability and a thermal conductivity of at least about 10 W/m-K at 25&#xb0; C. and a second flame stable thermally conductive layer on the lower surface of the inner core having a high flame stability and a thermal conductivity of at least about 10 W/m-K at 25&#xb0; C. The fire resistant composite further contains a first fire resistant polymer layer on the first flame stable thermally conductive layer on the side opposite to the inner core.

Fire resistant composite

A spike resistant package containing a pouch, a first grouping of spike resistant textile layers, and a slip layer. Each of the textile layers within the first grouping of textile layers contains a plurality of interwoven yarns or fibers having a tenacity of about 5 or more grams per denier. At least a portion of the spike resistant textile layers comprise about 10 wt. % or less, based on the total weight of the spike resistant textile layer, of a coating comprising a plurality of particles having a diameter of about 20 &#x3bc;m or less on at least one of the surfaces of the spike resistant textile layer. The slip layer has a stiffness of less than about 0.01 N-m and a static coefficient of friction (COF) between the slip layer and the second side of the first grouping of less than about 0.40. The pouch encapsulates the grouping of textile layers and slip layer. An article containing the package is also described.

Each of the textile layers within the first grouping of textile layers contains a plurality of interwoven yarns or fibers having a tenacity of about 14 or more grams per denier. The slip layer has a thickness of less than about 0.1 mm, a stiffness of less than about 0.01 N-m, and a static coefficient of friction (COF) between the slip layer and the second side of the first grouping of less than about 0.40. The pouch essentially fully encapsulates the grouping of spike resistant textile layers and the slip layer and the slip layer and the inner surface of the pouch are in direct and intimate contact. An article containing the package is also described.

An energy absorbing panel containing a pair of generally parallel spaced apart rigid end plates having a stiffness of at least about 200 N-m and a plurality of fabric layers extending between the rigid end plates oriented in a z-axis direction defined as being perpendicular to the rigid end plates. Each fabric layer contains a plurality of monoaxially drawn, thermoplastic fibers. The plurality of fabric layers are fused together forming a bonded structure. Methods of making the energy absorbing panel are also disclosed.

The invention relates to an impact resistant component comprising at least two composite sheets fused together, each composite sheet comprising an adhesive layer fused between two unidirectional sheets, wherein each unidirectional sheet comprises a plurality of monoaxially drawn fibers arranged substantially parallel to one another along a common fiber direction, the fibers comprising a base layer of a strain oriented polymer disposed between surface layer(s) of a heat fusible polymer, wherein the surface layer(s) are characterized by a melting temperature below that of the base layer to permit fusion bonding upon application of heat, and wherein the adhesive layer has a melting temperature below that of the base layer of the unidirectional sheet.

Moldable fabric with unidirectional tape yarns

A base substrate having a first side and a second side, first and second receiving loops extending from the first and second side of the base substrate, respectively, and first and second stiff loops extending from the first and second side of the base substrate, respectively. The base substrate is a flexible cloth or cloth-like material. The receiving loops are an absorbent material such as the material used in the base substrate. The stiff loops are formed of a yarn having at least one filament with a cross-section having an aspect ratio of greater than about 1.2, a corner edge, and/or at least a concave portion.

Combination loop textile

Wash-durable fluorochemical-containing textile and/or fiber treatments that simultaneously impart soil resistance (or soil-release) properties and moisture wicking characteristics to target fabric substrates are provided. Such treatments surprisingly impart these two simultaneous effects to target fabrics and/or fibers because fluorochemicals generally provide moisture repellency rather than moisture wicking capabilities. As prior soil release/moisture wicking treatments do not function properly, or, alternatively, compromise hand or other properties of certain target textiles after treatment application, a new, effective, soil release/moisture wicking formulation for such purposes was needed. The inventive treatment is extremely durable on such fabric substrates; after a substantial number of standard launderings and dryings, the treatment does not wear away in any appreciable amount and thus the substrate retains its soil release/moisture wicking properties. The method of adherence to the target yarn, fiber, and/or fabric may be performed any number of ways, most preferably through the utilization of a jet dyeing system or through a steam-transfer method. The particular methods of adherence, as well as the treated textile fabrics and individual fibers are also encompassed within this invention.

Fluorochemical-containing textile finishes that exhibit wash-durable soil release and moisture wicking properties

In a preferred embodiment, the present process involves subjecting a fabric comprised of conjugate yarns to an acidic treatment, which degrades a portion of one component of the conjugate yarns and to dyeing. The acid treatment, given certain reaction kinetics, removes a portion of the polyamide element of the conjugate filament. The at least partial removal of the polyamide component results in a fabric has enhanced dyed appearance, especially when dyed a dark shade. In an alternate embodiment, the fabric may also be treated with a basic solution to improve its moisture transport properties.

A lightweight loop pile fabric having improved particle pick-up is described. In addition, a patterned loop pile fabric is described. The fabric has a plurality of multifilament loops extending from at least one of its surfaces, with at least some of the loops being teased. In one embodiment, the loops are formed from splittable multifilament yarns which are hypersplit during the manufacturing process to form teased loops. The fabrics perform particularly well in the manufacture of wiping cloths with enhanced performance characteristics. In addition, the fabrics enable the production of patterned articles having performance characteristics similar to or exceeding those of unpatterned goods. A process for making the fabrics is also described.
