In some aspects, the disclosure is directed to methods and systems for providing a hybrid low power, high bandwidth media transport protocol between media sinks and media sources by splitting control and synchronization commands to a low power communication interface, and media data to a high bandwidth unidirectional communication interface. Media sinks need not transmit via the high bandwidth unidirectional communication interface, reducing power consumption, which may be particularly beneficial for small devices with limited battery capacity such as wireless earbuds.

An apparatus includes multiple radio-frequency (RF) circuits, a number of Bluetooth (BT) cores and a processor. The BT cores are coupled to the plurality of RF circuits. The processor is coupled to the BT cores to control operations of the RF circuits and the BT cores. The RF circuits, the BT cores and the processor are implemented as a system on a chip (SoC). Controlling the operations of the RF circuits and the BT cores can be performed by controlling register spaces associated with the RF circuits and the BT cores.

In some aspects, the disclosure is directed to methods and systems for an enhanced data rate, low energy wireless communication. Devices may communicate over predetermined wireless bands such as the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz ISM bands, using &#x3c0;/4-differential quadrature phase shift keying, with physical layer rates of 1, 2, 4, 8 Mbps or higher. Symbol timing may be at any frequency, and may be 256 ns in some implementations. In some implementations, to extend device battery life, devices may use a low latency reconnect mechanism allowing frequent hibernation or shutdown of transmitters and/or carriers.

A method of communicating data in a Bluetooth&#x2122; low energy (BLE) module is provided. The method includes modulating an outbound communication signal into a modulated signal with a particular modulation scheme based on a modulation type, and transmitting the modulated signal to a remote device via a wireless communication connection associated with the modulation type. The method also includes receiving an inbound radio frequency (RF) signal, determining if the inbound RF signal is associated with a modulation type, and demodulating the inbound RF signal with a particular modulation scheme based on the modulation type if the inbound RF signal is determined to be associated with a modulation type. In some aspects, the inbound RF signal and outbound modulated signal have symbol rates of 2 Megasymbols per second. In some implementations, the method includes switching between a legacy BLE system and an enhanced rate BLE system.

A method and system for packet synchronization may comprise receiving a plurality of bits from an incoming sample of data. The received plurality of bits may be sliced at a first sampling rate. A logic level of at least one of the received plurality of bits may be determined based on the slicing of the received plurality of bits. The received plurality of bits may be synchronized with a channel access code based on determining the logic level of at least one of the received plurality of bits. The channel access code may be sampled at a higher frequency, to increase the probability of detecting whether the incoming bit is LOGIC 1 or LOGIC 0.

Methods and systems for wireless communication are disclosed and may include controlling one or more scans of a received signal detection frequency across a frequency range and storing a magnitude of the received signal at each frequency where the magnitude exceeds a threshold level. A type of one or more signals in the received signal may be determined based on a bandwidth of the signals. A Bluetooth page/inquiry scan may be initiated if the determined type is a page/inquiry signal, and scans may be continued if the determined type may not be a page/inquiry signal. The scans may be repeated on a periodic basis and may be controlled utilizing a voltage controlled oscillator. Each of the scans may include a plurality of discrete frequency steps or a continuous frequency ramp. The controlling may include a start frequency, an end frequency and a frequency step size for the scans.

In a radio comprising a transmitter and a receiver, transmission and reception of signals may be controlled based on received signal strength measurements from a signal strength indicator module and transmitted signal strength measurements from the signal strength indicator module. For the transmitted signal strength measurements, the shared signal strength indicator module may measure signal strength of a signal output by a power amplifier. For the received signal strength measurements, the shared signal strength indicator module may measure signal strength of a received signal. A capacitance coupled to an output of the power amplifier may be configured based on a frequency of the signal output by the power amplifier. A gain of the power amplifier may be controlled based on the transmitted signal strength measurements. For the transmitted signal strength measurements, an analog-to-digital converter may process the signal output by the power amplifier.

A method and system for a single chip integrated Bluetooth and FM transceiver and baseband processor are provided. The single chip may comprise a Bluetooth radio, an FM radio, a processor system, and a peripheral transport unit (PTU). FM data may be received and/or transmitted via the FM radio and Bluetooth data may be received and/or transmitted via the Bluetooth radio. The FM radio may receive radio data system (RDS) data. The PTU may support digital and analog interfaces. A processor in the processor system may time-multiplex processing of FM data and processing of Bluetooth data. The single chip may operate in an FM-only, a Bluetooth-only, and an FM-Bluetooth mode. The single chip may reduce power consumption by disabling portions of the Bluetooth radio during FM-only mode and/or disabling analog circuitry when performing digital processing. A method and system for digital spur cancellation may include removing a spur in a left channel minus right channel (L&#x2212;R) baseband signal generated from a FM signal. The L&#x2212;R baseband signal may be generated by demodulating a sub-carrier, for example, by using CORDIC algorithm, in a signal demodulated from the FM signal. An orthogonal signal may also be generated by demodulating a sub-carrier, for example, by using CORDIC algorithm, in a signal demodulated from the FM signal. The phase of the orthogonal signal may be further adjusted to introduce a substantially &#x2212;90&#xb0; phase shift to spurs at a specific frequency. Accordingly, the spurs in the L&#x2212;R baseband signal may be cancelled when the first L&#x2212;R baseband signal is combined with the phase adjusted orthogonal signal.

In RF transceivers, a method and system for using phase shift key (PSK) sync word for fine tuning frequency adjustment are provided. One aspect of the invention provides for adjusting a local oscillator frequency in a radio frequency (RF) receiver when a residual DC offset remains after a coarse frequency offset adjustment if performed. The fine adjustment may be necessary because of the synchronization required with a PSK-based modulated portion of a Bluetooth packet. A residual phase shift detected in a sync sequence portion of the Bluetooth packet may be utilized to determine a residual or fine frequency adjustment. This approach may allow an RF receiver to operate, in some instances, without the need for an equalizer. In this regard, the power consumed by the RF receiver may be minimized and/or the overall cost of the RF receiver may be reduced.

Method and system for using PSK sync word for fine tuning frequency adjustment

Methods and systems for processing an RF signal are disclosed herein. Aspects of the method may comprise utilizing a single input CORDIC and a single output CORDIC for synchronizing and demodulating a received signal, wherein the received signal may comprise one or more bit rates. The received signal may comprise a one megabit per second (Mbps) signal. The single input CORDIC may be configured to operate in a rotating mode and the single output CORDIC may be configured to operate in a rotating mode and/or an arctangent (ARCTAN) mode. A rotated output of the single input CORDIC may be correlated with a phase shift keying (PSK) synchronization (sync) word and a portion of the correlated rotated output of the single input CORDIC may be buffered.
