A backlight assembly comprises a light source unit emitting light, a heat-blocking plate disposed over the light source unit to prevent heat generated from the light source unit from being upwardly transmitted, and a receiving container receiving the light source unit and the heat-blocking plate. The receiving container includes a bottom plate and a plurality of sidewalls. Each of the sidewalls extends from a side of the bottom plate and has openings formed through each of the sidewalls. The openings are formed over the heat-blocking plate.

A flat fluorescent lamp includes a first substrate, a second substrate, an external electrode, and a radiating member. The second substrate is combined with the first substrate to form a plurality of discharge spaces. The external electrode is formed on at least one surface of the first substrate and the second substrate, wherein the external electrode extends perpendicularly to the discharge spaces. The radiating member is formed on the external electrode and radiates heat generated from the external electrode. Therefore, the heat generated from the flat fluorescent lamp is radiated to outside the flat fluorescent lamp through the radiating member, reducing pinhole formation and generally improving luminance characteristics of the flat fluorescent lamp.

A back light assembly includes a light guide plate (LGP), a light reflecting member (LRM), at least two lamps, and a receiving container. The LGP includes a light incidence face having a width that is a first distance, a light reflecting face for reflecting a first light, and a light exiting face for emitting the reflected first light as a second light. The LRM covers the light incidence face to form a receiving space defined by the LRM and the light incidence face. The at least two lamps are disposed in the receiving space and spaced apart from each other by a second distance. A sum of diameters of the two lamps and the second distance is longer than the first distance. The receiving container receives the LGP and the LRM, where the LRM includes a chamfer disposed at an edge, the chamfer enhancing a reflection efficiency.

Back light assembly and liquid crystal display device having the same

A backlight assembly includes a receiving container having a bottom and a side member to provide a receiving space, a flat-type fluorescent lamp received into the receiving container to emit a light, and a supporting member having a buffer disposed between the receiving container and the flat-type fluorescent lamp to buff an impact applied to the flat-type fluorescent lamp while supporting the flat-type fluorescent lamp. The buffer has protrusions protruding from a face of the supporting member. Thus, the backlight assembly may enhance impact resistance of the backlight assembly and prevent damage of the flat-type fluorescent lamp.

A liquid crystal display includes a lamp assembly, a light guiding plate, and liquid crystal display panel assembly. The light guiding plate includes a light input face for receiving light from the lamp assembly, a light reflection face with at least one brightness enhancement recess, a light output face opposite the light reflection face for emitting light towards the liquid crystal display panel assembly, and a plurality of side faces. The at least one brightness enhancement recess reflects toward the light output face light from the light input face and light reflected by the side faces.
