The present invention relates to a method for controlling traffic congestion in a network, the network comprising a plurality of nodes including a source node, intermediary nodes and a destination node. In one embodiment, this can be accomplished by collecting network topology information and various parameters from each nodes in the network, storing the collected information and parameters in a database, computing network statistics from at least one of the contemplated collected information thereby reflecting the probabilities of changing modulation at a specific state, computing optimal parameters of specific congestion mitigation mechanisms associated with the plurality of nodes and configuring each node's specific congestion mitigation mechanism, wherein for each mechanism the method calculates the optimal parameter configuration per node.

Method and a system for controlling traffic congestion in a network

A network apparatus includes a customer network portion having a customer premises equipment (CPE) bridge configured to connect to internal network entities of the customer network portion and to edge bridges of a provider network portion interconnecting separate customer network portions. The CPE bridge is configured to determine a transparent local area network service (TLS) for a packet received from one of the internal network entities based on a media access control (MAC) address of a destination of the packet in a different separate customer network portion. The CPE bridge is also configured to modify the packet to indicate the determined TLS, for the provider network portion to utilize to transmit the packet based on the determined TLS to a second CPE bridge associated with the destination, without the provider network utilizing the destination MAC address.

Method and system for transparent LAN services in a packet network

A method includes receiving by a first inter network interface (INI) a control message from an entity in a first network, the first INI being located at a border between the first network and networks external to the first network. The first INI translates the control message from a first format used internally in the first network to a second format used to communicate between the first INI and a second INI located at a border between a second network and networks exterior to the second network. The first INI then transmits the translated control message to the second INI. The method can also include translating, by the second INI, the received control message from the second format to a third format used internally in the second network, and forwarding the received and translated control message to an entity in the second network.

Automatic signaling method and device for telecommunication services

A method for relaying Ethernet frames over an Ethernet network, the method including adding a tag that provides an address from a hierarchical address scheme to an Ethernet frame; and relaying the Ethernet frame through the network according to the tag. There is also provided a configurable Ethernet bridge having a filtering database including a plurality of subnet masks for relaying frames according to a hierarchical address scheme.
