Polyolefin compositions prepared by processing a polyolefin resin and a mixture of a select hindered phenol and select liquid phosphite above the melting point of the polyolefin contain a higher amount of retained active phosphorus than when other common phosphites are used. The compositions, and films, fibers and other molded articles prepared from the compositions show improved stabilization against NOX discoloration and long term oxidation. The select liquid phosphite consists mainly of a mixture of triphenyl phosphite derivatives wherein the phenyl groups are substituted by different numbers of butyl and/or amyl substituents.

Polyolefin compositions for film, fiber and molded articles

Solid phosphite compositions comprising tris(4-t-alkylphenyl)phosphites and selected hydroxyalkyl amines exhibit surprising performance compared with other phosphite stabilizers in the stabilization of polymers, such as polyolefins and the like, particularly in the prevention of color formation during high temperature processing or when exposed to certain gasses during storage, e.g., 'gas fading'.

A polymer composition comprises a polymer matrix, a first fluorine-containing processing aid, and a second processing additive system that is substantially free of fluorine and that comprises: (a) a lubricant and (b) a surfactant.

Polymer processing aids

A polymer stabilizing composition comprising a sterically hindered phenol and a phosphite that provides low gel content and enhanced resistance to gas-fading. The stabilizer composition is particular useful for stabilizing polyethylene homopolymers and copolymers, such as linear low density polyethylenes produced from metallocene catalyst. The sterically hindered phenol is, for example, selected from the group consisting of 1,3,5-tris-(4-tert-butyl-3-hydroxy-2,6-dimethylbenzyl)isocyanurate, 1,3,5-tris-(3,5-dicyclohexyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)isocyanurate, 1,3,5-tris-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)isocyanurate, 1,3,5-tris(4-t-butyl-3-hydroxy-2,6-dimethylbenzyl)-1,3,5-Triazine-2,4,6-(1H,3H,5H)-trione, and 1,3,5-tris-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene.

Polymers with low gel content and enhanced gas-fading

A polymer stabilizing composition comprising a sterically hindered phenol and a phosphite that provides low gel content and enhanced resistance to gas-fading. The stabilizer composition is particular useful for stabilizing polyethylene homopolymers and copolymers, such as linear low density polyethylenes produced from metallocene catalyst. The sterically hindered phenol is selected from the group consisting of 1,3,5-tris-(4-tert-butyl-3-hydroxy-2,6-dimethylbenzyl)isocyanurate, 1,3,5-tris-(3,5-dicyclohexyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)isocyanurate, 1,3,5-tris-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)isocyanurate,1,3,5-tris(4-t-butyl-3-hydroxy-2,6-dimethylbenzyl)-1,3,5-Triazine-2,4,6-(1H,3H,5H)-trione, and 1,3,5-tris-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene. The phosphite preferably is a liquid phosphite composition comprising two or more alkylated aryl phosphites.
