A method for maintenance checking of a dental handpiece is disclosed. The method comprises measuring in advance no-load current values of a drive motor, with a handpiece known as being in usable condition and a handpiece known as insufficiently maintained respectively connected thereto and operated in no-load condition, storing as reference data the no-load current values of the drive motor together with associated data relating to degree of maintenance, measuring a no-load current value of the drive motor with a dental handpiece to be checked connected thereto and operated in no-load condition, and determining whether the handpiece checked is usable, requires maintenance, or is unusable, by comparing the measured no-load current value with the reference data.

A shielded cable includes two signal wires, each of which having a signal conductor covered with an insulator, and a shield conductor having a metal clad resin tape spirally wrapped around the two signal wires in a lump. The insulator is configured so that a section thereof is to be deformable by an external force. A residual diameter ratio of the signal wire is 80% or greater and 95% or less when load of 1 kg is applied to the signal wire for 30 minutes.

Shielded cable

A shielded cable comprising two insulated wire covered with first and second metal clad resin tapes each of which has a laminated metal layer and a resin layer. The first metal clad resin tape covers the circumference of the two insulated wires by open-wrapping and the second metal clad resin tape is spirally wrapped around the circumference of the first metal clad resin tape. The first and second metal clad resin tapes are disposed while the metal layers face each other and, in the portion where the second metal clad resin tape is overlapped by wrapping, the metal layer of the overlapped one second metal clad resin tape and the metal layer of the other second metal clad resin tape are in contact with the first metal clad resin tape. The shielded cable can prevent sharp signal attenuation in a high frequency region and is easy to bend and flexible.

A drive motor of a dental handpiece for driving a cutting tool of the handpiece is provided that is connected to the dental handpiece on its front end side and includes a cylindrical casing; a rotor unit, which is rotatably supported inside the casing and outputs a driving force; a stator unit provided around the rotor unit inside the casing; and an air path which causes cooling air supplied from the rear end side of the drive motor to pass through an airtight cooling room circumferentially extending between the stator unit and the casing, and to be discharged from the rear end side.
