A seal monitoring system includes at least one sensor configured to couple to an outer surface of a housing and to output a sensor signal indicative of deformation of the housing. The housing is configured to receive an insert within an internal cavity of the housing, and an engageable seal is configured to selectively establish a seal between the insert and the housing. The seal monitoring system also includes a controller communicatively coupled to the at least one sensor. The controller includes a memory and a processor, the controller is configured to determine a degree of engagement of the engageable seal based on the deformation of the housing. Additionally or alternatively, the controller is configured to determine a fluid pressure within the housing based on the deformation of the housing.

Seal monitoring system

A technique facilitates utilization of a running tool system for use with a tubing hanger deployed at a wellhead. The running tool system may comprise a running tool which may be coupled to a hanger. The running tool may include a first sleeve which may be coupled to the hanger for moving the hanger in an axial direction. According to an embodiment, the running tool also may include a second sleeve which may be coupled to an adjustable landing ring disposed about the hanger. The second sleeve may be used to rotate the adjustable landing ring so as to lock the hanger in position.

Running tool system for a hanger

A wellhead system includes a wellhead including a position sensor disposed in an inner surface of the wellhead, and a wellhead component to be installed in the wellhead, the wellhead component including a position indicator disposed in an outer surface of the wellhead component, wherein the position sensor is configured to transmit a position signal in response to the wellhead component entering into a predetermined aligned position in the wellhead.

Wellhead systems and methods

An apparatus includes a valve coupled to a pressure-containing component of a wellhead assembly. The pressure-containing component can include a hollow body, a bore within the hollow body, and an access passage that is in the hollow body and is in fluid communication with the bore. The valve can include a sealing element that is positioned along the access passage and is selectively moveable between closed and open positions to control fluid flow through the access passage. During operation, the sealing element may be moved between the closed and open positions without actuating the sealing element through an outer end of the access passage. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

Wellhead assembly valve systems and methods

Smart wellhead assemblies with sensors for detecting positions of components within the bores of the wellhead assemblies are provided. In some instances, the sensors can be used to detect one or more of landing, locking, or concentricity of hangers, packoffs, or other internal wellhead components within bores. In one example, a method of installing a hanger within a wellhead includes lowering the hanger within the wellhead and using one or more sensors to detect when the hanger is at a target location. The method can also include activating a locking mechanism of the hanger and using the one or more sensors to detect when the locking mechanism has secured the hanger within the wellhead. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

Smart wellhead

A system includes a running tool having a tool body configured to couple to a hanger assembly, a first sleeve disposed around the tool body and configured to move in an axial direction with respect to the tool body, a torque sleeve disposed around the tool body and configured to move in the axial direction as a result of movement of the first sleeve in the axial direction, where the torque sleeve has a first torque transfer interface configured to interlock with a second torque transfer interface of the hanger assembly to enable torque transfer from the running tool to the hanger assembly, and a second sleeve configured to couple to the first sleeve, where the second sleeve is configured to move to engage a lock member of the hanger assembly and to move the lock member between a locked position and an unlocked position.

Running tool for tubing hanger

A system includes a hanger locking assembly configured to lock a hanger within a housing of a wellhead. The hanger locking assembly includes an energizing ring having one or more axially-extending passageways configured to receive and to support one or more control lines. An anti-rotation element extends between the energizing ring and the hanger to block rotational movement of the energizing ring relative to the hanger. A locking ring is in contact with the energizing ring, and axial movement of the energizing ring relative to the hanger drives the locking ring radially to engaged position in which the locking ring extends into a corresponding recess of the housing of the wellhead to block axial movement of the hanger relative to the wellhead.

Hanger running system and method

A system includes a housing of a wellhead, a hanger configured to be positioned within the housing of the wellhead, and a hanger retention system. The hanger retention system includes a key-slot interface having at least one retention segment configured to move between a collapsed position in which the at least one retention segment does not block movement of the hanger relative to the housing of the wellhead and an engaged position in which the at least one retention segment engages at least one corresponding slot to block movement of the hanger relative to the housing of the wellhead. The at least one retention segment includes a wavy cross-sectional shape at least while the at least one retention segment is in the engaged position that enables the at least one retention segment to move between the collapsed position and the engaged position.

Casing hanger retention system

A wellhead hanger assembly is provided. In one embodiment, a system includes a wellhead hanger, a running tool coupled to the wellhead hanger, and a torque sleeve positioned to transmit torque from the running tool to the wellhead hanger. The running tool can be in castellated engagement with the torque sleeve via a first set of castellations and mating slots, and the wellhead hanger can be in castellated engagement with the torque sleeve via a second set of castellations and mating slots. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

Rotating hanger and running tool

A subsea wellhead assembly includes a production tree and a tubing hanger assembly having a tubing hanger and an orientation adapter. A passage is formed through a side wall of the orientation adapter for porting communication from within a main bore of the wellhead assembly. When the tubing hanger assembly lands in the wellhead, a key on the orientation adapter engages a helical profile on an inner surface of the main bore and rotates the orientation adapter so that the passage registers with a passage in the tree. Fluid and electricity communicates through the registered passages. Examples of connectors between the respective passages include spheriseal connectors and electrical wet connects.

Orientation adapter for use with a tubing hanger

A well production system including a wellhead and a first casing string supported from a first casing hanger landed on a shoulder in the wellhead bore. A loading shoulder assembly is installable in the wellhead and includes an energizing ring, a loading ring threaded into the interior of the energizing ring, a lock ring, and a hold-down ring threaded into the interior of the loading ring. The hold-down ring engages the first casing hanger to prevent rotation of the hold-down ring and restrain rotation of the loading ring. The lock ring is expandable from an unset position into supporting engagement with the wellhead in a set position upon rotation of the energizing ring. The hold-down ring is also moveable axially out of the loading ring to restrain the first casing hanger.
