Adaptor

An electrical cable connector assembly includes a connector and a cable. The connector includes a housing enclosing an insulator with contacts fixed thereto. The cable has a number of wires with leads electrically connected to the contacts. A plastic strain relief is fixedly attached to the cable by insert molding, and has two keys engagably received within two grooves defined by the housing. A metal strain relief is formed by stamping a metal sheet to have a hollow body portion and two fitting wings extending from opposite sides thereof. The body portion is crimped to be fixedly connected to the cable near the plastic strain relief. The wings are fittingly received between a stop wall and either a connecting post or sleeve formed on a lower housing member of the housing. Through cooperation between the metal and plastic strain reliefs, a large withdrawal force acting on the cable relative to the connector can be effectively transmitted to the housing to prevent the withdrawal force from affecting the leads of the cable.

Strain relief device for electrical cable connector assembly

An electrical connector assembly (10) includes a universal bracket (12) for retaining at least a group of audio jack units (17) therein. Each audio jack unit (17) includes a plurality of signal contacts (22) and at least a grounding contact (24) thereof for mounting to a mother board (100) on which the assembly (10) is seated. A grounding clip (26) is retainably attached to the corresponding audio jack unit (17) under the condition that one spring finger (38) thereof contacts the grounding contact (24) and an engagement tang (46) thereof projects out of the front surface (49) of the universal bracket (12) for efficient engagement with the front panel of the computer case which the bracket (12) confronts.

An offset Ultra SCSI connector comprises a dielectric housing having an island portion, a rear portion, and a plurality of terminals embedded therein. The terminals have insulation displacement sections defining a connecting face on said rear portion and insertion sections on said island portion. A carrier retaining a plurality of conductive wires in traverse slots thereof is assembled to the rear portion. A pair of wedges is formed on opposite ends of the carrier. A first EMI shield is assembled to the housing from a bottom thereof. A pair of retaining tabs upwardly extends from opposite ends of the shield. Each retaining tab defines an opening securely engaged with the corresponding wedge.

An adapter (10) includes a pair of male/female connectors (12, 14) solderably positioned on two ends of a PC board (16). A pair of identical metal shells (20) are adapted to be engaged with each other with their grounding tangs (38) extending at two ends thereof, respectively, for conductive engagement with the metal shieldings (60, 80) of such pair of connectors (12, 14). The metal shells (20) also defines a space for protectively enclosing the PC board (16) therein. A pair of identical plastic covers (40) are fixedly aligned and attached to each other commonly enclosing such pair of metal shells (20) therein. The metal shells (20) are restrained between the pair of connectors (12, 14), and fixedly aligned with the corresponding covers (40), respectively. The connectors (12, 14) are aligned with and confinably received within the covers (40). Two interconnection ports of such pair of connectors (12, 14) are respectively exposed to the exterior at opposite ends of the adapters (10).

Adapter and mechanism thereof

A stacked type connector assembly (10) includes an insulative bracket (12) defining an upper level portion (14) and a lower level portion (16) for respectively receiving a first connector (18) and a second connector (20) therein. A first mounting surface (24) is formed on the upper level portion (14) whereby the first connector (18) can be supportably mounted thereon, and a second mounting surface (30) is formed on the lower level portion (16) whereby the second connector (20) can be engageably attached thereto, wherein such first mounting surface (24) is disposed between a pair of side walls (22) while such second mounting surface (30) is composed of two abutment planes (36) disposed by two sides of such pair of side walls (22). A first pair of boardlocks (53) helpfully fasten the first connector (18) to the bracket (12) in the upper portion (14) thereof and a second pair of boardlocks (68) fasten the second connector (20) to the bracket (12) in the lower portion (16) thereof. The bracket (12) further provides a spacer structure (48) on the rear portion for aligning the contact tails (19) of the first connector (18) with regard to the board on which the bracket (12) with the first and the second connectors (18, 20) is mounted.

Bracket with boardlocks for arranging stacked connectors

An arrangement for adoption of either the traditional UART D-Sub connector (70) or the upgrading USB connector (10) with a same mother board (100), includes a side-by-side dual-port USB connector assembly (10), which is generally integrally formed by two standard four-pin simplex type USB connector units (14), and the mother board (100), wherein the electrical and mechanical layout on the mother board (100) is arranged in some specific area not only for mounting the traditional D-Sub connector (70) but also the updated USB connector (10) thereon.

A cable connector includes a casing having two members ultra-sonically jointed to define therein an interior space for receiving a connector body which has a coupling end to couple to a counterpart connector with a plurality of slots formed therein, wherein the respective slot receives a connection pin, for establishing signal channel with a counterpart connector. A cable containing a number of conductors has a joint end received within the casing to allow the conductors to be electrically connected to the connector body via a circuit board. The joint end of the cable has two opposite shoulders each having a front face and an opposite rear face to be snugly receive within a chamber defined within the casing by two spaced wall segments with the front and rear faces thereof in abutment relationship with the wall segments to provide resistance to external force acting upon the cable. Each of the shoulders of the cable is provided with a hole into which a peg formed inside the respective chamber is received to provide a further resistance to the external force. The casing is further provided with two lock-in spring plates at two opposite sides thereof, each having a retaining section fixed inside the casing and a lock-in section outside the casing for securing the connector to the counterpart connector, a pushbutton section being integrally connected between the retaining section and the lock-in section to form a single piece member. The pushbutton section is accessible by a user to release the connector from the counterpart connector.

Cable connector structure

An electrical connector (10) includes an insulative housing (12) defining a plurality of passageways (14) therein for receiving therein a plurality of corresponding contacts (40) wherein the tail (42) of each contact (40) extends downward into a corresponding hole disposed in a PC board (100) on which the connector (10) is mounted. Each contact (40) further includes a contact section (44) for engagement with a mating contact of a complementary connector, and a retention section (46) positioned between the contact section (44) and the tail (42) wherein such retention section (46) includes a pair of opposite compliance expansions (47) defining an opening (48) therebetween so that such pair of expansions (47) may abut against the internal walls of the passageway (14) in the housing (12) for retaining the contacts (40) in position in the housing (12). An auxiliary alignment plate (50) adapted to be attached to the rear portion of the housing (12), includes a plurality of throughholes (52) for allowing the corresponding number of contact tails (42) to extend therethrough for a preliminary alignment of the contact tail (42) with the corresponding holes in the PC board (100), and further includes two opposite posts (56) integrally extending downward on two opposite ends thereof, wherein each post (56) includes a pair of diametrical slits (60) along its axial direction so that a pair of spaced legs (30) of each boardlock (20) disposed on one end of the housing (12), may be aligned within the corresponding slits (60) in the post (56) to have a correct position with regard to the corresponding hole (102) in the PC board (100).

Connector with auxiliary alignment plate

A cable connector assembly (20) for use with USB receptacle connector (1), includes an insulative housing (26) having a main body (28) from which a plug section (30) extends forward and a platform section (32) extends rearward. A plurality of passageways (34) extend through the housing in a front-to-end direction for receiving a corresponding number of contacts (40) therein. A pair of protrusions (29) and a recess (25) are formed on the surface of the main body of the housing. A shell (60) generally surrounds the main body (28) the plug section (30) of the housing (26) with the apertures (66) for engagement with the housing (26) and for securement of the whole cable connector assembly (20). A round cable includes a plurality of internal wires (70) respectively soldered to the rear end of the corresponding contacts (40). An epoxy layer (88) covers the solder joints of the cable wires (70) and the contacts (40), and also fastens the wires (70) of the cable in position with regard to the whole cable connector assembly (20). An over-molded jacket (80) encompasses the pre-assembled and premolded housing (26) with the shell (60) and the epoxy layer (88) thereon wherein a copper foil (76) is used for grounding with the shell (60) on the housing (26) and the drain wire shield (78) in the cable cover (72).

Cable connector assembly

A system (10) for arrangement of a D-Sub connector (60) and three audio jacks (34), includes an insulative bracket (12) generally comprising an upper section (14) and a lower section (16). The upper section (14) includes a pair of securement posts (18) defining a D-Sub receiving space (19) therebetween for attachment of a D-Sub connector (60) thereto. The lower section (16) includes a jack assembly receiving cavity (29) with latching lugs (28) aside for locking the jack assembly (30) therein wherein a plurality of openings (25) are formed in the front portion (21) for allowing the mating portions (42) of the audio jack assembly (30) to extend forward. The system (10) further includes a pair of boardlocks (54) which not only secures the D-Sub connector (60) to the bracket (12) but also retains the whole system (10) on the mother board in position.
