A computing system that can receive an object search request from a user indicating a request to search for a specific object in an area traversed by one or more autonomous vehicle. The object search request can include a set of physical characteristics of the specific object. The computing system can then transmit a signal to an autonomous vehicle indicating a request for the autonomous vehicle to search for the specific object. The signal can cause the autonomous vehicle to transmit an image, selected based on a physical characteristic of the object, to the computing system. The computing system can then generate a score indicative of a difference between one or more physical characteristic of the object in the image and the specific object. The computing system can then selectively transmit the image to a mobile device operated by the user based on the score.

Micro-authorization of remote assistance for an autonomous vehicle is described herein. A constraint that inhibits propulsion by a mechanical system of the autonomous vehicle is activated by a computing system of the autonomous vehicle, wherein a signal that identifies the activated constraint is transmitted from the autonomous vehicle to a remote computing system. The remote computing system generates instructions to deactivate the activated constraint. A return signal is transmitted from the remote computing system that specifies instructions to deactivate the constraint and a distance to desirably advance the autonomous vehicle. The computing system of the autonomous vehicle deactivates the constraint and the mechanical system is controlled to advance the autonomous vehicle when signal latency is less than a predetermined threshold duration of time.

Sensors coupled to a vehicle are calibrated using a dynamic scene with sensor targets around a motorized turntable that rotates the vehicle to different orientations. The sensors capture data at each orientation along the rotation. The vehicle's computer identifies representations of the sensor targets within the data captured by the sensors, and calibrates the sensor based on these representations. The motorized turntable may confirm that rotation has stopped to the vehicle to trigger sensor capture, and the vehicle may communicate completion of sensor capture at an orientation to the motorized turntable to trigger further rotation.

Sensors coupled to a vehicle are calibrated using a calibration environment that includes sensor targets, and optionally includes a motorized turntable that rotates the vehicle to different orientations, with the sensors capturing data at each orientation. The vehicle's computer identifies representations of the sensor targets within the data captured by the sensors, determines whether characteristics such as lighting or positioning of the representations of the sensor targets are optimal for calibration, sends signals to lighting systems or motorized target movement systems if necessary to adjust those characteristics, and calibrates the sensor based on the representations of the sensor targets.
