Systems and methods are provided for managing the power of a secondary node in an E-Utran/New Radio Dual Connectivity (ENDC) configured wireless communication network. In response to determining that one or more transmission blocking conditions have been met, a master node communicates an instruction to the secondary node via a data connection cable or an X2 logical interface to not transmit downlink signals, reducing overall power network power consumption and inter-nodal inference when ENDC resources are not required.

Power management of secondary node based on network conditions

Systems and methods are provided for managing the power of a secondary node in an E-Utran/New Radio Dual Connectivity (ENDC)&#x2014;configured wireless communication network. In response to determining that one or more transmission blocking conditions have been met, a master node communicates an instruction to the secondary node via a data connection cable or an X2 logical interface to not transmit downlink signals, reducing overall power network power consumption and inter-nodal inference when ENDC resources are not required.

In a Multi-User Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) radio, networking circuitry transfers MU-MIMO target information to a neighbor radio. The neighbor radio processes the MU-MIMO target information to propose User Equipment (UEs) for handover from the neighbor radio to the MU-MIMO radio. In the MU-MIMO radio, transceiver circuitry determines MU-MIMO channel characteristics for the UEs. Based on their MU-MIMO channel characteristics, the networking circuitry selects some of the UEs from the handover proposals and rejects the other UEs. The transceiver circuitry wirelessly transfers handover acceptance signals to the selected UEs. The transceiver circuitry wirelessly transfers handover rejection signals to the rejected UEs. The transceiver circuitry wirelessly transfers user data to the selected UEs using MU-MIMO.

Handover control for a multi-user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) access point

Device-to-device (D2D) transmissions by a wireless device may interfere with base station reception of other signals. To mitigate this interference, the wireless device estimates the path loss between itself and the base station. The path loss and the current D2D transmission power level are used to estimate the amount of interference the base station is experiencing as a result of the D2D transmissions from the wireless device. Based on the estimated interference experienced by the base station, the wireless device increases the robustness of the MCS being used and decreases the transmission power level by a corresponding amount. By decreasing the D2D transmission power level, less interference will be experienced by the base station. By increasing the robustness of the MCS, the impact of the reduced D2D transmission power level is mitigated.

Techniques for device-to-device frequency reuse in cellular networks

A method for controlling handover of a user equipment device (UE) between (i) a first cell site that provides dual-connectivity service on a first radio access technology (RAT) and a second RAT and (ii) a second cell site that provides standalone first-RAT service, wherein the handover includes transitioning the UE from source first-RAT service to target first-RAT service. The method includes setting a handover threshold to use as a basis to evaluate whether target first-RAT coverage detected by the UE is sufficiently stronger than source first-RAT coverage detected by the UE, where setting the handover threshold includes setting the handover threshold to a value selected based on whether the UE has detected that second-RAT coverage of the first cell site meets a defined threshold measurement threshold. Further, the method includes applying the set handover threshold as a basis to control whether to invoke the handover of the UE.

Controlling handover between dual-connectivity service and standalone service, with dynamic handover threshold

A device, method, and computer-readable medium are provided for transmitting control plane information to user equipment (UE) using a Full Dimension MIMO (FD-MIMO) base station. Contextual device data associated with a plurality of mobile devices is obtained. A cluster configuration for a sector is determined based at least in part on the obtained contextual device data. At least one antenna element in a plurality of antenna elements of the FD-MIMO base station that together generate a beamform that corresponds to the determined cluster configuration is selected based on the determined cluster configuration. Control plane information that is directed to the determined cluster configuration is then transmitted from the selected at least one antenna element.

Adaptive broadcast beam generation of FD-MIMO systems

In an wireless communication system, base stations will be set to prioritize serving one type of user equipment device (UE) over another type of UE, and each base station's respective prioritization will be conveyed to UEs to facilitate base station selection. That way, when a UE faces a choice of whether to connect with one base station or another, the UE could determine which base station gives higher priority to the UE's type and could connect with that base station, even if the UE detects stronger coverage of the other base station. And if the UE finds itself in coverage of a base station that gives lower priority to the UE's type than to another UE type, the UE could still connect with that base station unless the UE finds another base station that gives higher priority to the UE's type.

Controlling cell selection based on relative device-type prioritization

An Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) base station transfers a wideband measurement request for a wideband OFDM spectrum to User Equipment (UE). The base station receives a wideband signal metric from the UE, and if the wideband signal metric is below a threshold, the base station transfers a sub-band null request to shield a sub-band of the wideband spectrum to an adjacent base station. The base station also transfers a sub-band measurement request to the UE. The base station receives a sub-band signal metric for the shielded sub-band from the UE, and if the sub-band signal metric is above a threshold, then the base station authorizes use of the shielded sub-band for the UE. The base station receives a communication request for the UE, and in response, transfers another sub-band null request to the adjacent base station and exchanges wireless data over the shielded sub-band with the UE.

Orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) sub-band allocation to enhance wireless data communications

A method of operating a communication system includes communicating data between an access node and a wireless device using carrier aggregation. This carrier aggregation includes communicating using at least a primary carrier and a secondary carrier. The communication system determines that conditions for the secondary carrier meet a beamforming requirement criteria. The communication system determines an angle of arrival of the primary carrier. Based on the angle of arrival determined for the primary carrier, beamforming is applied to the secondary carrier.

A system information message is received by a wireless device. The system information message was broadcast from a first access node using a first frequency band. Cell loading information is extracted from the system information message. Based on the cell loading information, it is determined whether to connect the wireless device to the first access node using the first frequency band, or to a second access node using a second frequency band. The second access node is also broadcasting system information messages that include cell loading information.
