A control apparatus for an internal combustion engine is provided with: a first determining device configured to determine whether or not the number of revolutions of the internal combustion engine is less than a predetermined number of revolutions and control torque is required for a rotary electric machine; a second determining device configured to determine whether or not required control torque is less than a predetermined threshold value; a first controlling device configured to realize the control state in one arm and to realize the power generation state if the required control torque is less than the predetermined threshold value; a second controlling device configured to realize the control state in both the one arm and the other arm if the required control torque is greater than the predetermined threshold value; and a threshold changing device configured to change the predetermined threshold value to increase with increasing number of revolutions of the internal combustion engine.

A vehicle driving apparatus that operates a motor generator efficiently for improving driving comfort. The apparatus includes a motor generator and a connecting mechanism. The connecting mechanism connects the motor generator to an auxiliary device and selectively connects the motor generator to the engine. When the engine is maintained in an automatically stopped state, the motor generator is disconnected from the engine and drives the auxiliary device. When the engine stopping condition is satisfied, the motor generator rotates an engine drive shaft, thus suppressing vibration otherwise caused by stopping of the engine. When the engine starting condition is satisfied, the motor generator rotates the engine drive shaft to generate force to move the vehicle. In this state, the engine is started. When the vehicle is moving, the motor generator generates power through the engine.

An engine start control system includes a starter and a motor generator capable of starting an engine. The engine start control system further includes a controller that determines the rotational resistance of the crankshaft based on cooling water temperature of the engine or viscosity of the engine oil, and then selects the starting mode of the engine by a starter motor and a motor generator based on the determination. Consequently, the startability of the engine is improved according to the state of the vehicle.

In an economy running mode, auxiliary machines are operated by a motor generator in a state where the engine is stopped so as to reduce electric power consumption. The motor generator, the engine and the auxiliary machines are connected through pulleys and belts. Moreover, a clutch is provided for switching enabling/disabling of power transmission between the motor generator and the engine. A battery is connected to the motor generator through an inverter. When the engine is stopped, the clutch is disengaged and the auxiliary machines are operated by the motor generator.

The motor/generator is operated to rotate the second rotary element to start the engine, with the first one-way clutch inhibiting the reverse rotation of the third rotary element, and as an electric generator, with the first one-way clutch allowing the forward rotation of the third rotary element while the three rotary elements are rotated as a unit under an action of the second one-way clutch.

Disclosed is a solution circulation type metal-halogen battery in which an electrolyte is circulated between a reaction tank and an electrolyte storage tank. This battery has a first group of rectifying plates and a second group of rectifying plates aligned in a row, respectively, so as to partition between the inlet of the electrolyte and the reaction tank and between the outlet thereof and the reaction tank, respectively. These first and second groups of rectifying plates are formed in such a manner that the interval between the respective rectifying plates increases in accordance with a predetermined functional equation in the direction of moving away from the inlet or outlet side of the electrolyte. This apparatus equalizes the flow rate and velocity of the electrolyte flowing through the reaction tank, thereby preventing the occurrence of an overvoltage or a faulty deposition of metal resulting from the non-uniform flow of the electrolyte.

An engine is automatically stopped under predetermined conditions, thereafter, restarted under other predetermined conditions. The conditions of automatically stopping the engine includes at least a stopped state of a wiper which is driven by two-speed typed motor. Operating condition of the motor for driving the wiper is detected by a signal from either a low terminal or a high terminal of the motor.

In a system wherein the operating conditions of various portions of a vehicle are detected and an engine is automatically stopped and started in accordance with the operating conditions thus detected, a fuel supply system is cut to prevent the run-on of the engine in addition to the cut-off of current passage to an ignition system as in the prior art. There controls are effected when both any one or more of predetermined operating conditions and any one or more of conditions of precluding the automatic stop are present.
