An electric submersible pump includes a heat exchanger, a shaft comprising an axial bore, and a motor, which includes a rotor rotationally coupled to the shaft, a stator concentrically disposed with respect to the rotor, and a journal bearing disposed between the stator and the shaft. There is a gap between the rotor and the stator. The electric submersible pump further includes a first pump mechanically coupled to the shaft and configured to pump production fluid through a tubular, and a second pump mechanically coupled to the shaft and configured to pump coolant through the axial bore, the gap, and the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger transfers heat from the coolant to the production fluid to cool the motor.

Current-controlled circuit breaker for electrical submersible pump motor leads

Processing device-based systems and methods for controlling an electric motor of an electric submersible pump system in a balanced current condition using a variable speed drive despite an impedance imbalance of an electric cable connecting the electric motor to the variable speed drive. The systems and methods can utilize estimated motor shaft angular position and speed values, as well as values of three-phase motor currents measured at an output of an inverter of the variable speed drive as input information. Positive-sequence and negative-sequence current components may be extracted from measured current values and compared to reference values. The system provides an overall voltage command in the abc reference frame to a pulse width modulation controller, which generates an inverter switching pattern that will control the electric motor of the electric submersible pump system in a balanced current condition.

The pin connector assembly comprises a generally cylindrical shape with an outer surface, an inner spring, and mechanically coupled to an electrical cable. The socket connector assembly comprises a generally cylindrical in shape with an inner surface, an outer spring, and mechanically coupled to an electrical cable. The contact surface stress between the pin connector and socket connector can be increased by the inner spring, the outer spring, or both. The contact resistance of the connectors is reduced by the increase in contact surface stress via the spring force. The insulating member can be threadingly coupled to the mated connectors.

Disclosed is an apparatus According to the present invention, a new winding arrangement was developed to enhance the manufacturability of stators with large length to diameter ratio and small aperture diameters such as the ones designed and manufactured for downhole pumping applications. The rectangular conductors are pre-formed to a specific shape, nested together, and inserted into the stator slots. Once the conductors are inserted, additional bending and joining operations are required to complete the coils and phases. These operations can be either fully automatic or semi-automatic. The structure of the winding allows insertion of phase and phase to phase insulation after the joining operation is completed thus reducing the risk of damage to the insulation system during the joining process. The pre-formed winding due to its ability to nest by design results is very short end-turns compared to conventional winding.

A wet connection system suitable for use in hydrocarbon wells is formed from one or more elongated, small diameter conduits which extend down the wellbore and which terminate adjacent a locating structure on the production tubing. Equipment deployed at the locating structure is connected to one or more self supporting conductors which extend down the conduits from the wellhead. Preferably the conductors are retractable and the conduits are sealingly connected to the equipment, allowing the equipment and conductors to be deployed and recovered independently of each other and to be flushed with dielectric oil pumped down the conduits after re-connection.
