A network node for an orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Access, OFDMA, based wireless local area network is provided. The network node includes processing circuitry. The processing circuitry includes a processor and a memory. The memory contains instructions that, when executed by the processor, configure the processor to reduce transmission time inequality among each of a plurality of wireless device during an OFDMA subframe by assigning a respective OFDMA subband of a plurality of OFDMA subbands to each of the plurality of wireless devices, and cause data transmission on the assigned OFDMA subbands to the plurality of wireless device.

Method and apparatus for frequency selective scheduling in OFDMA based WLANs

A method and node for providing scalable radio resource management, RRM, in a wireless local area network, WLAN, are provided. According to one aspect, a method in a self-organizing network, SON, manager node includes receiving radio frequency, RF, scan data from wireless access points, AP, creating network segments of limited sizes based on the RF scan data, and periodically executing an RRM optimization algorithm in an RRM time slot in each of successive RRM periods.

Generally, an OFDM transmitter may be configured to map or assign the different OFDM signals to different subsets of the available OFDM subcarriers such that the data contained therein can be transmitted at the same or during an overlapping time interval. In one application, an LTE transmitter is configured to generate and/or transmit LTE information using LTE subcarriers located in unused portion(s) of the Wi-Fi system bandwidth independently of or in addition to transmitting Wi-Fi or LTE information using LTE subcarriers located in portions of the Wi-Fi system bandwidth normally occupied by Wi-Fi subcarriers.

Method and system for orthogonal multi-protocol transmissions

Methods and systems for multi-protocol beacon operation in shared spectrum (unlicensed band) are disclosed where an OFDM transmitter is configured to generate transmissions associated with one OFDM technology or protocol using subcarriers of another OFDM technology. In one application, an LTE transmitter (LTE-U) uses LTE subcarriers to generate an interpolated 802.11 (e.g. Wi-Fi) beacon transmission that can be understood by Wi-Fi receivers, for example to reserve the channel for a subsequent LTE transmission. For instance a W-LAN preamble is generated where STF and LTF fields consist in respectively 12 and 52 subcarriers mapped at their respective frequency locations among the 2048 LTE subcarriers with the remaining subcarriers set to 0. In some implementations, the use of beacons can be useful in implementations where it is desirable to gain prioritized access to reserve the channel. Examples of suitable LTE transmissions that would benefit from prioritized channel access include delay or time-sensitive LTE transmissions or transmissions that must occur within a certain time window and/or with a certain periodicity such as LTE control data or signals (e.g. PDCCH), and/or synchronization or reference signals such as the Discovery Reference Signal (DRS) for LAA-LTE). An LTE transmitter can exploit the 802.11 channel access to gain prioritized channel access for transmitting 802.11 Wi-Fi beacons generated using its LTE subcarriers to ensure LTE transmissions take priority over other types of LTE and/or Wi-Fi traffic.

Multi-OFDM-protocol beacon operation

A method and node are disclosed. According to one aspect, a method includes receiving scan reports from a plurality of access points, AP, and partitioning a wireless communication network into clusters of APs for which scan reports are received, the APs being partitioned into clusters based on neighbor relationships, there being a first limit to a number of APs that can be in a cluster. In some embodiments, the node is a manager node such as a self-organizing network (SON) manager node.

Network performance framework for wireless local area networks

Methods and systems for multi-protocol transmissions in shared spectrum are disclosed. According to principles described herein, a wireless transmitter is configured to generate subcarriers or symbol information from one OFDM technology using subcarriers of another OFDM technology. With this approach, a wireless transmitter configured to transmit OFDM symbols using subcarriers and a subcarrier frequency spacing associated with one OFDM protocol can also be configured to transmit OFDM symbols associated with another OFDM protocol which normally uses different subcarriers and a different subcarrier frequency spacing. In one application, an LTE transmitter uses LTE subcarriers to generate 802.11 (e.g. Wi-Fi) subcarrier or symbol information that can be understood by Wi-Fi receivers, for example to reserve the channel for a certain duration, to indicate a transmission time associated with an on-going and/or upcoming symbol transmission or to create a carrier sense indication, for example, to cause Wi-Fi receivers and other radio technologies to consider the channel as busy.

A downlink scheduler schedules downlink transmissions to a plurality of user terminals over a shared downlink channel and allocates resources for the downlink transmissions. For making scheduling decisions, the downlink scheduler computes a resource metric to compare the available resources that are being allocated. The resource metric is based on the individual scheduling metrics of the user terminals. Allocation of the resources is performed in an iterative fashion. A first resource is selected based on the resource metric and allocated to a user terminal based on the corresponding individual scheduling metrics of the user terminals. The next resource is then selected and allocated. This allocation process continues until all RBGs are allocated, or until all user terminals are served. In one embodiment, the resource metrics for the remaining resources and individual scheduling metrics for the remaining user terminals are computed/recomputed during each iteration.
