Fluoropolymers and membranes comprising fluoropolymers (I)

Disclosed are hydrophilic porous PTFE membranes comprising PTFE and an amphiphilic copolymer of the formula (I): wherein Rf, Rh, Rh, Y, m, n, and o are as described herein. Also disclosed are a method of preparing hydrophilic porous PTFE membranes and a method of filtering fluids through such membranes.

Hydrophilic porous polytetrafluoroethylene membrane (II)

Disclosed is a self-wetting porous membrane comprising an aromatic hydrophobic polymer such as polysulfone and a wetting agent comprising a copolymer of formula A-B or A-B-A, wherein A is a hydrophilic segment comprising a polymerized monomer of the formula (I): CH&#x2550;C(R)(R), wherein Rand Rare as described herein, and B is polyethersulfone, wherein segments B and A are linked through an oxygen atom. Also disclosed is a method of preparing a self-wetting membrane comprising casting a solution containing an aromatic hydrophobic polymer and the wetting agent, followed by subjecting the cast solution to phase inversion. The self-wetting porous membrane finds use in hemodialysis, microfiltration, and ultrafiltration.

Hydrophilically modified fluorinated membrane (I)

Disclosed are fluoropolymers with low CWST values and porous membranes made from the fluoropolymers. The fluoropolymer is made up of polymerized monomeric units of the formula A-X&#x2014;CH&#x2014;B, wherein A is CF&#x2014;(CH), X is O or S, and B is vinylphenyl, and the fluoropolymer has a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of at least 100 Kd and/or a glass transition temperature of at least 33&#xb0; C. copolymer. The porous membranes are suitable for degassing a variety of fluids.

Fluoropolymers and membranes comprising fluoropolymers (III)

Disclosed is a fluorinated polymer of the formula: R&#x2014;S&#x2014;P, wherein R is a fluorocarbyl group, S is sulfur, and P is: (i) polyglycerol; (ii) poly(allyl glycidyl ether); (iii) a copolymer of glycidol and allyl glycidyl ether, the copolymer having one or more allyl groups; or (iv) poly(allyl glycidyl ether) or copolymer of glycidol and allyl glycidyl ether, wherein one more of the allyl groups have been replaced with a functional group as described herein. Also disclosed is a method of preparing the fluorinated polymer. The fluorinated polymer finds use in improving the hydrophilicity of porous hydrophobic membranes such as PTFE and PVDF.

Self-wetting porous membranes (I)

Disclosed is a block copolymer of the formula: A-B-A (I) or A-B (II), wherein block A is: (i) a polymer of allyl glycidyl ether or (ii) a polymer of allyl glycidyl ether wherein one more of the allyl groups have been replaced with 1,2-dihydroxypropyl group or a group of the formula: &#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;S&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;X, wherein a, b, and X are defined herein. The block copolymers find use as wetting agents in the preparation of porous membranes from aromatic hydrophobic polymers such as polyethersulfone. Also disclosed are methods of preparing such block copolymers and porous membranes therefrom.
