Exemplary embodiments are disclosed of telecommunication control units (TCUs) having top surfaces (e.g., defined by mounting brackets, etc.) configured (e.g., curved, non-flat, contoured, etc.) to follow, match, and/or correspond with the contours (e.g., curvatures, non-flat contours, etc.) of vehicle roofs (or other vehicle body walls or mounting surfaces). Also disclosed are exemplary embodiments of TCU mounting brackets configured (e.g., curved, non-flat, contoured, etc.) to follow, match, and/or correspond with the contours (e.g., curvatures, non-flat contours, etc.) of vehicle roofs (or other vehicle body walls or mounting surfaces). Exemplary methods relating to installation of TCUs to vehicle body walls are disclosed. An exemplary method may include positioning a top surface (e.g., defined by a mounting bracket, etc.) of a telecommunication control unit against the vehicle body wall. The top surface may be configured (e.g., curved, non-flat, contoured, etc.) to match and/or correspond with a contour of the vehicle body wall.

Telecommunication control units (TCUs) having contoured top surfaces to follow vehicle roof contours

Exemplary embodiments are provided of molding designs and methods for helical antennas. In an exemplary embodiment, a method generally includes placing an antenna element between a top mold core and a first bottom mold core, and injecting molding material into a first mold cavity defined by at least the top mold core, thereby forming a top portion of a helical antenna housing and two opposite side portions of the helical antenna housing. The method also includes removing the first bottom mold core and placing a second bottom mold core about the antenna element, and injecting molding material into a second mold cavity defined by at least the second bottom mold core, thereby forming a bottom portion of the helical antenna housing.

According to various aspects, disclosed are exemplary embodiments of vehicular antenna assemblies. In an exemplary embodiment, a vehicular antenna assembly generally includes a first satellite antenna configured to be operable for receiving first satellite signals, and a second satellite antenna configured to be operable for receiving second satellite signals different than the first satellite signals received by the first satellite antenna. A reflector is positioned generally between the first and second satellite antennas. The reflector is configured to be operable for reflecting the first satellite signals generally towards the first satellite antenna.

Exemplary embodiments are disclosed of vehicular antenna assemblies and methods relating to assembling vehicular antenna assemblies. In an exemplary embodiment, a vehicular antenna assembly generally includes a dielectric antenna carrier and at least one antenna coupled to the dielectric antenna carrier. The at least one antenna includes a lower end portion that extends downwardly relative to the dielectric antenna carrier. The lower end portion is positionable within an opening in a printed circuit board and/or positionable in electrical contact with a contact member along the printed circuit board when the dielectric antenna carrier and the at least one antenna are moved relatively downward toward the printed circuit board.

Vehicular antenna assemblies

An antenna assembly includes a radome, a camera, and a plug assembly. The radome defines an opening. The camera is positionable at least partially within the opening. The camera and the radome define a passage when the camera is positioned at least partially within the opening of the radome. The plug assembly is positionable at least partially within the passage. The plug assembly includes a plug having one or more first coupling structures and a seal having one or more second coupling structures. At least one of the first coupling structures and at least one of the second coupling structures are mateable to detachably couple the seal to the plug to substantially prevent contaminants from passing into the radome via the opening of the radome. Other antenna assemblies, plug assemblies, and methods relating to assembling antenna assemblies and/or plug assemblies are also disclosed.

Antenna assemblies having sealed cameras

An antenna assembly includes a camera, a plug, and a radome. The radome is configured to house one or more antennas. The radome defines an opening extending between its interior surface and its exterior surface. The camera is positionable at least partially within the opening of the radome. The camera and the radome define a passage between the radome and the camera when the camera is positioned at least partially within the opening of the radome. The plug defines an opening extending between its interior plug surface and its exterior plug surface to receive at least a portion of the camera. The plug is positionable at least partially within the passage to substantially prevent contaminants from passing into the radome via the opening of the radome. Other antenna assemblies and methods relating to antenna assemblies are also disclosed.

According to various aspects, exemplary embodiments are disclosed herein of vehicular antenna assemblies and radome assemblies for vehicular antenna assemblies. In exemplary embodiments, a radome includes a mount along an inner surface of the radome. A reflector is mounted to the mount of the radome. The mount and the reflector are configured such that the reflector is operable for reflecting, refocusing, and/or directing satellite signals generally towards a satellite antenna of the vehicular antenna assembly when the radome is positioned over the satellite antenna.

An antenna assembly generally includes an antenna module mountable to a vehicle body wall. The antenna base module may include a base, an inner (e.g., environmental protective cover, etc.) cover coupled to the base, at least one antenna element disposed within an enclosure defined by the inner cover and the base, and one or more latching members. An outer (e.g., cosmetic, styled, and/or aerodynamic, etc.) cover may include one or more snap clip members engageable with the one or more latching members when the outer cover is positioned over the inner cover. The snap clip members may include curved portions and flex points.

Disclosed are exemplary embodiments of multiband multiple input multiple output (MIMO) vehicular antenna assemblies for installation to a vehicle body wall. In exemplary embodiments, a multiband MIMO vehicular antenna assembly generally includes at least one cellular antenna configured to be operable over one or more cellular frequencies (e.g., Long Term Evolution (LTE), etc.), at least one satellite antenna configured to be operable over one or more satellite frequencies (e.g., Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), satellite digital audio radio services (SDARS), etc.) and at least one Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) antenna configured to be operable over DSRC frequencies.

Multiband MIMO vehicular antenna assemblies with DSRC capabilities

Exemplary embodiments are disclosed of antenna mast assemblies, which may be configured for multiband operation for automobiles or other vehicular applications. In an exemplary embodiment, an antenna mast assembly generally includes a coil radiator including a first coil portion and a second coil portion. The antenna mast assembly also includes a support having a first end portion, a second end portion, a first protruding portion, and a second protruding portion. The coil radiator is disposed about at least a portion of the support such that the first coil portion is between the first protruding portion and the first end portion of the support, and such that the second coil portion is between the second protruding portion and the second end portion of the support.

Antenna mast assemblies

The specification discloses various embodiments of modular antenna assemblies for automotive vehicles. In one exemplary embodiment, an antenna generally includes a base assembly that may be used on a variety of vehicle platforms. The antenna may also include a radome assembly that is specific to a particular vehicle platform. The radome assembly may snap-fit onto the base assembly, and be installed during or after vehicle assembly. A wide variety of radome assemblies of different shapes, styles, and colors may be used in conjunction with a single base assembly.

Modular antenna assembly for automotive vehicles

An antenna assembly is provided that includes an antenna element depending from an antenna mounting base. The mounting base includes a shaft portion that uniformly tapers from a mounting end portion to a projecting end portion. The shaft portion includes grooves, or flutes, that each extends from the mounting end portion toward the projecting end portion, and that each has a curvature about an axis of the shaft portion. The grooves provide the shaft portion with an asymmetrical cross-sectional area that causes airflow impinging on the shaft portion to generate turbulence and scatter low air pressure regions that tend to form locally around the shaft portion. As a result, small vibrations generated by the low pressure regions are suppressed, and whistling sounds, noises, etc. associated with the vibrations may be reduced.

In various exemplary embodiments, an antenna assembly is configured for installation to a vehicle body wall having a mounting hole. The antenna assembly generally includes an antenna base configured to be disposed along an external side of the vehicle body wall. An electrical connector is coupled to the antenna base such that, when the antenna base is disposed along the external side of the vehicle body wall, the electrical connector is accessible from inside the vehicle. Accordingly, an installer (from inside the vehicle) may thus plug a communication link into the electrical connector to thereby allow the communication link to communicate signals received by the antenna assembly to another device.

Antenna assemblies including standard electrical connections and captured retainers and fasteners

An antenna assembly generally includes an antenna module mountable to a vehicle body wall. The antenna base module includes a base, a protective cover coupled to the base, at least one antenna element disposed within an interior enclosure collectively defined by the protective cover and the base, and one or more latching members. An outer cosmetic cover has one or more snap clip members engageable with the one or more latching members when the outer cosmetic cover is positioned generally over the protective cover. The snap clip members and latching members are resiliently flexible and configured for forming a resiliently compliant connection therebetween. In a final installed position of the antenna assembly to the vehicle body wall, the lower edge of the outer cosmetic cover conforms against the vehicle body wall substantially without any gap therebetween.
