The present invention provides glass compositions and glass coatings that are lead-free and cadmium-free for use on glass substrates, particularly in automotive applications. The compositions of the present invention provide for chemically durable, blacker colors that are completely suitable for use in automotive glass windows. The compositions include tantalum oxide as a required component.

Durable functional glass enamel coating for automotive applications

Aqueous chemical routes and finished compositions of a core-shell particulate material for application in crystallizable glass enamel are disclosed. A composition of particles containing a shell of inorganic oxides or mixed-metal inorganic oxides and a core material of complex inorganic colored pigment, wherein the shell material is comprised of any single oxide or combination of oxides is taught. Preferred elements of composition for the shell are oxides and silicates of Ti, Ni, Zn, Al, Zr, Si, Sn, Bi, Na, K, and B. Core materials may be any material commonly classified as a complex inorganic colored pigment. The resulting particles function in glass enamel formulations as coloring agents and additives for partial crystallization of the glass material, and provide modification of glass melt temperature, durability, acid resistance, and other desirable properties.

Core-shell composite inorganic pigments and method of preparation for crystallizable glass frit compositions

The present invention provides glass compositions and glass coating systems for use on glass substrates in several industrial applications. It relates to a lead-free and cadmium-free glass enamel coating made primarily by utilizing at least one or more of lead-free and cadmium-free glass compositions comprising in weight percent from about 26% to about 63% SiO, from about 2% to about 10.5% ZnO, from about 8% to about 20% BO, from about 0.1% to about 10% BiO, up to about 12% NaO, from about 0.1% to about 17% KO, up to about 6% LiO, from about 0.1% to about 22% of TaO, from about 0.0% to about 22% of NbO, up to about 8% from each of AlO, TiO, ZrO, BaO and SrO, from about 0.1% to about 7% SbO, up to about 7% F, up to about 4% from each of CaO, MoOand MgO, and from about 0.1% to about 4% of one or more of LaO, NdO, PrOand CeO.
