The present invention includes a medicated dental floss and a method of making a medicated dental floss comprising: stretching a dental floss; dipping the dental floss in a biocompatible polymer&#x2014;solvent bath to coat the braided dental floss; drying the coated braided dental floss; dipping the coated dental floss in a medicated solution comprising an encapsulated medicament; and drying the medicated encapsulant on the coated dental floss.

Tailorable medicinally coated floss for the treatment of gum disease

The present invention includes composition and methods for composition for the oral delivery of a therapeutic agent that reduces, desensitizes, or prevents food, respiratory and other allergies. First pollen is cleaned to remove naturally-occurring allergic plant proteins to form a cleaned pollen and a therapeutically effective amount of an allergen is introduced into the cleaned pollen. The allergen-loaded cleaned pollen is delivered to a subject in need of therapy.

Pollen grains for treatment of peanut and other allergies

Methods and devices are provided for treating a food allergy in a subject in need thereof. The method entails delivering an effective amount of an allergen associated with the food allergy into the subject's cutis skin layer. Delivering the allergen is carried out by inserting one or more allergen-coated solid microneedles into the subject's skin. The one or more solid microneedles each has a base, shaft and tip, and when inserted in the subject, do not extend beyond the cutis. The allergen is allowed to dissociate from the one or more microneedles while inserted in the subject's cutis. Once the allergen disassociates, the one or more microneedles is removed from the subject's skin.

The present invention includes compositions, methods of making and using the compositions for modulating the immune response in a subject by providing a vaccine composition having a pollen or spore disposed in a pharmaceutical carrier for delivery to a subject, wherein the pollen or spore comprises multiple pores that connect an outer surface of the pollen/spore to an inner cavity and one or more antigens disposed on the outer surface, in the inner cavity, in the multiple pores, or a combination thereof, wherein the one or more antigens modulate an immune responses in the subject.

Coated microneedle devices and methods of making such devices are provided. In one aspect, a method for coating includes providing a microstructure having at least one surface in need of coating; and applying a coating liquid, which includes at least one drug, to the at least one surface of the microstructure, wherein the surface energy of the coating liquid is less than the surface energy of the surface of the microstructure. The coating liquid may include a viscosity enhancer and surfactant. Microneedles having heterogeneous coatings, pockets, or both are also provided.
