Remote keyless entry (RKE) systems and devices are described. The RKE devices include one or more passive radios that respond to an interrogation signal from an interrogating device such as a vehicle. The passive radio sends a responsive signal that can include a decaying portion representing a ringdown signal. The passive radio includes a SAW resonator in some situations.

Methods for using a surface acoustic wave resonator for automobile security

Techniques are described to for improving a resolution of a light detection and ranging (LIDAR) system. A receiver circuit of a LIDAR system can sample a reflection signal from an object in response to a transmitted light pulse. A controller can determine a curve fit to the received samples and, based on a peak value of the curve fit, determine a precise location of the object.

System and method for improved resolution in a LIDAR system

In an optical detection system, received light can be concentrated and presented to a single-pixel photodetector (or an array of relatively few photodetectors). Concentration of received light can be performed by curved concentrator such as a continuously-curved or faceted reflector. A portion or an entirety of the detector might be blinded (e.g., desensitized) by bright interferers such as the sun. An electro-optic shutter such as a liquid crystal (LC) structure can be used to selectively transmit or mask-off portions of the received light. For example, an LC structure can have regions of selectable opacity for a specified polarization of incident light. The LC structure can be controlled to render certain region opaque, such as to suppress interference from unwanted interferers such as the sun, bright lights, or unwanted reflections. An LC structure can also be used to implement a scanned transmit/receive technique.

Optical system for determining interferer locus among two or more regions of a transmissive liquid crystal structure

Optical systems can emit train(s) of light pulses onto objects to derive a distance between the light source and the object. Achieving meter or centimeter resolution may require very short light pulses. It is not trivial to design a circuit that can generate narrow current pulses for driving a diode that emits the light pulses. An improved driver circuit has a pre-charge path comprising one or more inductive elements and a fire path comprising the diode. Switches in the driver circuit are controlled with predefined states during different intervals to pre-charge current in the one or more inductive elements prior to flowing current through the fire path to pulse the diode.

Pulsed laser diode driver

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide mechanisms for measuring currents flowing in one or more conductor wires. The mechanisms are based on using magnetic sensor pairs arranged within a housing with an opening for the wires, where each magnetic sensor pair can generate a pair of signals indicative of magnetic fields in two different directions. The outputs of the sensor pairs can be used to derive a measure of current(s) flowing through the one or more wires. The use of magnetic sensor pairs that can measure magnetic field in two different directions may enable simultaneous current measurement in multiple wires placed within the opening, improve accuracy of current measurements while relaxing requirements for precise control of the placement of the wire(s), reduce the impact of stray magnetic interference, and enable both AC and DC measurements.

Current measurement using magnetic sensors and contour intervals

Improved flash light detection and ranging (also referred to herein as 'flash LIDAR') systems and methods for determining the distance to a target object disposed in a field-of-view. A flash LIDAR system can include an array of illuminators, an array of light detectors, and a signal processor/controller, as well as have a field-of-view in which a target object may be disposed. The flash LIDAR system can effectively divide the field-of-view into a plurality of segments, and each illuminator in the illuminator array can be made to correspond to a specific segment of the field-of-view. The flash LIDAR system can also effectively divide the light detector array into a plurality of subsets of light detectors. Like the respective illuminators in the illuminator array, each subset of light detectors in the light detector array can be made to correspond to a specific segment of the field-of-view.

Hybrid flash LIDAR system

A lidar system can be provided for measuring a clearance of overhead infrastructure, such as a bridge or overpass. The lidar system can alert a vehicle driver or automatically brake the vehicle if the available clearance is smaller than a height of the vehicle. The lidar system can emit rays of light over a range of angles towards a target region where the rays of light can have a vertical span. The lidar system can then receive rays of light reflected or scattered from the target region and can determine a distance traveled by the rays of light by determining a round trip travel time of the rays. A clearance of the overhead infrastructure can then be determined using geometric relationships.

Systems and methods for measuring a bridge clearance

A sensor assembly specially adapted for use as a crash sensor for motor vehicle applications. The sensor assembly includes a connector housing assembly and a separate sensor element. The sensor element is formed with a pair of spade type terminals. The sensor element is received by a passageway within the housing assembly which further incorporates receiving terminals connected with electrical pigtail wires. The assembly housing incorporates features for secure mounting of the unit to a vehicle or other device, and provide accurate location when needed for directional sensing. The unit provides a snapfit assembly of the sensor element and includes features for preventing improper assembly of the unit and provides a desired mechanical connection between the sensor element and the associated vehicle.

A satellite sensor system includes a base unit and a packaged motion sensor configured to be removably couplable to the base unit. The base unit is configured to mount to a vehicle and to faithfully transmit vehicle motion to an attached sensor.

Mounting method for satellite crash sensors

A satellite sensor system for a vehicle includes an application motion sensor for sensing vehicle motion for the purpose of activating a vehicle safety system, a low power consumption motion sensor for monitoring vehicle motion when the vehicle is parked or otherwise not in a driving mode, and an RF communications interface to allow the satellite sensor system to communicate with the vehicle's electronics control unit. The system withholds power from the application sensor until the low power consumption motion sensor indicates that the vehicle is about to enter a driving mode.

An apparatus and method of managing power in a communication device determines if the communication device is moving in one of a plurality of predefined movement modes, which may be one of a first mode and a second mode. The method causes the communication device 1) to consume power at a first rate if in the first mode, and 2) consume power at a second rate, relative to the first rate, if in the second mode. Method and apparatus for controlling a portable device

A method and system for determining camera positioning information from an accelerometer mounted on a camera. The accelerometer measures the orientation of the camera with respect to gravity. Orientation measurement allows user interface information to be displayed in a 'right side up' orientation on a viewfinder for any camera orientation. Alternatively, an artificial horizon indicator may be displayed in the viewfinder. The accelerometer may also measure camera movement. Camera movement information together with camera orientation can be used to determine camera usage. Additionally, camera movement information can be used to determine a minimum shutter speed for a sharp picture.

A calibration system for an inertial sensor includes a calibration module for processing an output value produced by the inertial sensor, the output value related to a detected movement of an object, wherein the calibration module calculates an offset value from a plurality of output values, and memory operatively coupled with the calibration module, the memory capable of storing the plurality of output values and/or the offset value, wherein the inertial sensor is calibrated using the calculated offset value.
