Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for remotely managing access to an area. An access management platform, which can be an electronic lock that is installed on, e.g., a door of a house, can enable a user to establish a virtual presence at the door. In one example, a delivery person activates a doorbell button/icon of the access management platform, which sends a message to a smartphone of the owner of the platform. The owner, who is at work, uses his smartphone to initiate a video stream using a camera of the platform, and a two way audio stream. The owner sees and initiates a discussion with the delivery person. The owner uses his smartphone to unlock the door, and asks the delivery person to open the door and deliver the package inside. The owner uses his smartphone to capture his signature to acknowledge the delivery.

Access management system

A locking device that can be mounted into a rotating or swinging door is disclosed. The locking device can have a deadbolt. The locking device can detect the position of the deadbolt and/or whether the door is closed. The locking device can have a camera, microphone and speaker. The locking device can send images detected by the camera and audio detected by the microphones to a remote computer.

Door tracking system and method

Disclosed are an apparatus and method that enables an owner/administrator to manage access to a shared resource based on identity that is established by use of biometric data. For example, access to a shared physical resource can be restricted via use of a biometric locking device. An access management platform can be used to authorize a new user to access the shared resource. Once authorized, the new user can unlock the biometric locking device based on, for example, fingerprint data of his finger. The access management platform can similarly be used to manage access to a virtual shared resource, such as an online account. A virtual locking device, such as a computer that acts as an intermediary between the user and the online account, can be used to restrict access to the online account. The access management platform can enable the user to access the online account based on biometric data.

Systems for determining an individual's current focal distance by measuring parameters associated with binocular vision focusing using one or two contact lenses are provided. In an aspect, a system includes a first contact lens and a second contact lens respectively configured to be worn over first and second eyes of an individual. The first contact lens and the second contact lens respectively include first and second circuits configured to respectively generate first data related to the first eye and second data related to the second eye for determining the current focal distance.

Apparatus, systems and methods employing contact lens as power source for powering a retinal implant are provided. In an aspect, a contact lens includes a substrate that forms at least part of a body of the contact lens and a circuit disposed on or within the substrate comprising. The circuit includes a power harvesting component configured to receive energy in a first form from an external power source and convert the energy from the first form to a second form and an energy transfer component configured to transmit the energy in the second form to device remote from the contact lens when the contact lens is worn over an eye.

The systems and methods may be directed to determining that an acceleration experienced by the wearable computing device exceeds a threshold value. In response, the wearable computing device may perform a diagnostic procedure in order to identify an indication of an injury experienced by the user of the wearable computing device. The diagnostic procedure may include one or more of an eye response test, a verbal response test, a motor response test, and a visual diagnostic test.

A method may involve: forming a first bio-compatible layer; forming an etch stop over a portion of the first bio-compatible layer; forming a conductive pattern over the etch stop and the first bio-compatible layer, wherein the conductive pattern defines an antenna, sensor electrodes, electrical contacts, and one or more electrical interconnects; mounting an electronic component to the electrical contacts; forming a second bio-compatible layer over the electronic component, the antenna, the sensor electrodes, the electrical contacts, the one or more electrical interconnects, and the etch stop; and etching, using an etchant, a portion of the second bio-compatible layer to form an opening in the second bio-compatible layer and thereby expose the sensor electrodes, wherein the etch stop inhibits etching of the portion of the first bio-compatible layer by the etchant.

Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for managing access to a shared resource based on identity that is established by use of personal data, such as biometric data, a password, etc. An electronic lock can be used to restrict access to a shared resource, such as a house, a car, etc. In some embodiments, the electronic lock establishes an identity of a user based on personal data obtained by a personal data device of the electronic lock. In some embodiments, the electronic lock includes a sensor that generates security-related sensor data, such as motion sensor data, proximity data, etc. The electronic lock can take a security-related action based on the security-related data. For example, the electronic lock can send a message indicating a possible break in attempt when the motion sensor data indicates motion indicative of a break in.

The first contact lens and the second contact lens respectively include first and second substrates, and first and second circuits respectively disposed on or within the first and second substrates and configured to respectively generate first data related to a focal trajectory of the first eye and second data related to a focal trajectory of the second eye, wherein the first circuit employs the second contact lens to generate the first data and the second circuit employs the first contact lens to generate the second data.

A method may involve providing a conductive pattern on a bio-compatible layer. The conductive pattern may include a first conductive layer that comprises a first metal and a second conductive layer that comprises a second metal. The second conductive layer may be over the first conductive layer, and the first metal may be more malleable than the second metal. The method may also include mounting an electrical component to the conductive pattern to provide an electrochemical sensor. The electrochemical sensor may be configured for use in a body-mountable device.

An example method involves: forming a first bio-compatible layer that defines a first side of a bio-compatible device; forming a conductive pattern over a portion of the first bio-compatible layer; mounting an electronic component to the electrical contacts; forming a second bio-compatible layer over the first bio-compatible layer, the electronic component, the conductive pattern, wherein the second bio-compatible layer defines a second side of the bio-compatible device; forming a first etch mask to partially cover the second bio-compatible layer, thereby exposing a first portion of the second bio-compatible layer; removing the first portion of the second bio-compatible layer; forming a second etch mask to partially cover the second bio-compatible layer, thereby exposing a second portion of the second bio-compatible layer; and removing the second portion of the second bio-compatible layer.
