There is disclosed a power-driven chain saw converted from a stripped-down power-driven circular power hand saw which has a unitary housing adapted to be mounted on the power unit of the stripped-down power-driven hand saw. The housing has bosses or raised portions which separate the housing into three vertical channels the sides of which are intact down to the open bottom ends thereof. The bosses are for mounting a chain support bar and a guard member and the channels are first, for the ascending chain, the second is for the descending chain, and the third, for venting sawdust. A deflector deflects sawdust into the vent channel. A sprocket floats on a splined shaft to accommodate different support bars, and special oiling ducts and special support bar adjustments are disclosed.

Power-driven chain saw

There is disclosed a power-driven chain saw converted from a stripped-down power-driven circular power hand saw which has a unitary housing adapted to be mounted on the power unit of the stripped-down power-driven hand saw. The housing is offset axially to provide a relatively wide area on one side having a window therein through which sawdust is deflected. Support-bar mount is an integral part of the housing as are a sawdust deflector, an oil reservoir, and a support-bar mounting boss. A sprocket is splined to a hub from which it is easily removable and which, in turn, is splined to the drive shaft with a more firm splining. A cover is provided for the housing which closely conforms to the chain and has an axially disposed dent or impression therein to accommodate the hub of the sprocket.

There is disclosed a conversion chain saw in which a circular power hand saw which has been converted into a saddle-type chain saw is modified so that it is adapted to use a pin-and-groove-type chain saw and to be again converted back to a saddle-type chain saw. There is mounted on the drive shaft, a dual sprocket composed of a saddle-type chain-saw sprocket, which may be the one in the original conversion, and a pin-and-groove-type chain-saw sprocket. The two sockets are mounted on the shaft in juxtaposition. A shim-plate provides a secondary mounting base for the support bar for the pin-and-groove type. It has an oil tube and conduit for conducting oil into a complementary oil conduit in the new support bar. A suitable coupling nipple is provided to provide for continuity in the oil circuit which takes advantage of the oil circuit already provided in the original conversion.

Conversion chain saw

A chain saw blade having a plurality of linked cutting segments having serrated or saw teeth on the cutting edge is provided with depth-control surfaces parallel to the plane of the peaks of the teeth to limit the depth of penetration of the teeth. At the leading end of the leading depth-control surface there is a canted portion which slopes to the end edge of the segment to a point essentially coincident with the plane of the valleys of the teeth.
