A system and methods for co-registering multi-channel images of a tissue micro array, comprising the steps of, providing a biological material on a substrate; applying one or more molecular probes, adapted to provide fluorescent molecular markers, to the biological material; obtaining a first digital image of the biological material and the fluorescent molecular markers; applying a morphological stain to the biological material; obtaining a second digital image of the biological material, computing information common to the first and second images; and co-registering the second image with the first image based on one or more registration metrics.

The present techniques provide for the processing of color tissue images based on image segmentation. In an exemplary embodiment, the color and texture features of pixels in a tissue image are used to generate a matrix of feature vectors. A subset of feature vectors is selected from the matrix of feature vectors and a set of colors and textures are derived using the tissue image and the subset of feature vectors. An initial segmented tissue image is then generated from this set of colors and textures.

An imaging and interventional system and methods are provided. The system comprises an imaging device for acquiring volumetric image data for an anatomical region of interest, a catheter for acquiring electrophysiological (EP) measurements of the anatomical region of interest, the catheter having at least one tracking coil for detecting signals indicative of a position of the catheter, and, a processor coupled to the catheter for receiving the EP measurements and signals indicative of the position of the catheter. The position of the catheter and EP measurements are combined and superimposed on a resultant image. The method comprises acquiring volumetric image data for an anatomical region of interest, acquiring position data for a catheter inserted in the region of interest, obtaining electrophysiological (EP) measurements for the region of interest and combining the image data, position data and EP measurements into a resultant image for use in the interventional procedure.

A coil array for use in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is provided and comprises a plurality of low loss coil elements and at least one non-conducting substrate adapted to position the plurality of low loss coil elements in a fixed position thereon. Further, a coil array assembly for use in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner is provided. The coil array assembly comprises a pair of coil arrays, wherein each coil array comprises: a plurality of low loss coil elements and at least one non-conducting substrate adapted to position the plurality of low loss coil elements in a fixed position thereon. Further, the pair of coil arrays are coupled to the MRI scanner for receiving imaging signals in a region of interest excited within the pair of coil arrays. Further, the coil array is adapted for use in breast imaging.

System and method for segmenting tissue types in dual-echo magnetic resonance images

An apparatus and method for segmenting three-dimensional (3D) medical images containing a region of interest is provided that identifies a first set of seed points within the region of interest and a second set of seed points outside the region of interest. A first sphere is constructed within the region of interest. Voxels contained within the medical image are classified using a spatial constrained fuzzy clustering algorithm. A plurality of second spheres is generated. Ones of the plurality of second spheres are accepted that satisfy the homogeneity function threshold as defined by the spatial constricted fuzzy clustering algorithm. A three-dimensional area is grown that defines the region of interest. The region of interest defined by the three-dimensional area is displayed.

Semi-automatic segmentation algorithm for pet oncology images

A method and system for segmenting three-dimensional (3D) medical images containing an object of interest are provided. The method comprises generating a plurality of successive layers of fixed radius spheres about a circumference of a sphere containing at least one seed point placed within the object of interest when a plurality of respective voxels contained within the spheres exceed a selected threshold. The generation of the layers is repeated until no further voxels contained within an outer surface of each respective layer exceed the selected threshold or a stop seed point is encountered. The layers form a segmented representation of the object of interest.

Method and system for three dimensional phase unwrapping

The present invention provides a model and a method and apparatus for utilizing the model to simulate an imaging scenario. The model is mathematically defined by analytical basis objects and/or polygonal basis objects. Preferably, the model is a model of the human heart and thorax. Polygonal basis objects are only used to define structures in the model that experience torsion, such as certain structures in the heart that experience torsion during the cardiac cycle. The manner in which the basis objects comprising the model are transformed by scaling, translation and rotation is defined for each basis object. In the case where a basis object experiences torsion, the rotation of the basis object will change as a function of the length along the axis of the basis object about which rotation is occurring. During an imaging system simulation, the model is utilized by a forward projection routine, which integrates the linear attenuation coefficients associated with the rays emitted by a simulated x-ray source and collected by a simulated detector array to obtain line integrals corresponding to forward projection data. The forward projection data is then processed to take into account the physics of the imaging technology, the x-ray source and the detector array. The processed projection data is then processed and back-projected by a reconstruction modeling routine to produce a reconstructed representation of the model of the heart as a function of time.

Mathematical model and a method and apparatus for utilizing the model

A method for magnetic resonance imaging includes applying a first two echo gradient echo sequence to a tissue region, the first two echo sequence generating a first echo and a subsequent second echo. A second two echo gradient echo sequence is applied after heating the tissue region, the second two echo sequence generating a third echo and a subsequent fourth echo. A magnitude difference between the third echo and the first echo is measured and correlated to a temperature shift for fat tissue, and a phase difference between the fourth echo and the second echo is measured and correlated to a temperature shift for water-based tissue. A thermal image is generated of the tissue region based upon the temperature shift for both fat and water-based tissue.
