A new method for predicting the risk of cancer morality, rheumatoid arthritis; systemic lupus erythematosus, psoriatic arthritis, and all-cause mortality is disclosed. The method uses serum bilirubin levels as indicator for such risks, lower serum bilirubin levels generally indicating increased risk and higher levels a decreased risk.

Biosynthesis of diazomelanin and diazoluminomelanin and methods thereof

A new method for determining and reporting lipid fatty acids compositions and its use in diagnosing diabetes is disclosed. Adding internal standards, which are true analogs of the fatty acids to be analyzed, to blood serum or plasma samples before performing a gas chromatographic analysis of the fatty acids allows the results of the analysis to be reported in absolute terms as, for example, mg/L, instead of in relative percentages. Reporting the results as absolute concentrations reveals statistically significant differences in levels of various lipid fatty acids between persons having and not having diabetes.

Method for concentration based analysis of lipid fatty acids and its use

A new series of non-lipid risk factors for predicting coronary artery disease (CAD) are disclosed. The level of serum total bilirubin was found to be a statistically significant independent risk factor for CAD and to be inversely related to CAD. Similarly, the levels of fasting blood sugar, serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase and the ratio of total cholesterol to serum total bilirubin were found to be significant univariate predictors of CAD.
