A paste composition for forming an electrode on a silicon semiconductor substrate, the paste containing aluminum powder; an organic vehicle and a hydroxide. The paste composition finds applicability in a solar cell element wherein the electrode is formed by applying the paste on the silicon semiconductor substrate and thereafter, firing the paste composition.

Provided are a paste composition making it possible to improve the adhesive property of a backside electrode and restrain an aluminum electrode layer from exfoliating, and a solar cell element having an electrode formed by use of this composition. The paste composition is a paste composition for forming an electrode () on a silicon semiconductor substrate () which comprises aluminum powder, an organic vehicle, and a tackifier. The solar cell element has the electrode () formed by painting a paste composition having the above-mentioned characteristic onto the silicon semiconductor substrate () and then firing the resultant.

An aluminum product having the metal diffusion layer in the present invention has, on the surface thereof, a metal diffusion layer comprising aluminum and a diffusion metal which is diffused setting aluminum as a matrix and which includes at least one selected from the group consisting of Ni, Cr, Cu, Zn, Mg, Ti and Ag; wherein the diffusion layer is formed by diffusing inclinatorily not less than 1 .mu.m from the surface thereof; and the diffusion metal is not less than 1.0% by weight when the whole of the metal diffusion layer is set to be 100% by weight. Disclosed herein is an aluminium pigment comprising aluminium flakes, the surface of each aluminium flake being coated with a film of molybdic acid in an amount of 0.1 to 10% by weight in terms of Mo based on aluminium, which is further coated with a phosphoric film derived from a phosphoric compound selected from inorganic phosphoric acids, organic phosphoric acid esters having one phosphate group and their salts in an amount of 0.05 to 1% by weight in terms of P based on aluminium. The aluminium pigment of the present invention has good color tone and good adhesion. Further, the aluminium pigment of the present invention has good resistance to hot water.

Disclosed herein is an aluminum pigment comprising aluminum flakes, each of the aluminum flake being coated with molybdic acid in an amount of 0.1 to 10% by weight in terms of Mo based on Al. If desired, at least one selected from water-insoluble metal salts of molybdic acid and vanadium pentoxide in an amount of 0.1 to 10% by weight in terms of metal based on Al may be attached on the coatings of molybdic acid. The aluminum pigment of the present invention has good color tone and good water resistance.
