In a sake/milk heating process, the field of view of an infrared sensor is moved by a predetermined pattern in a heating chamber as an initial search. When the field of view is fixed after the initial search, if the temperature variation of an object within the field of view after a predetermined time has passed is equal to or lower than a specified value, various determinations are made, and the field of view of the infrared sensor is again moved in the heating chamber as a re-search. Thus, even if the field of view is fixed at a position where no food item is placed for some reason in the initial search, the field of view will not be fixed in the incorrect position and can be moved again.

In a microwave oven, a turn table rotates once in a period TX. During one rotation of turn table, a control circuit usually detects six pulse signals. Control circuit detects a weight of food placed on turn table based on detected intervals TA, TB, and TC of pulse signals. Note that, if six pulse signals are not detected during one rotation of turn table, the control circuit retries detection of the pulse signals and detects the weight of food placed on turn table based on TA, TB, and TC for a subsequent rotation of turn table.

A microwave oven in which a plurality of projections are formed on an interior surface of a cavity for reflection and distribution of microwaves. The plurality of projections are dispersedly arranged so that neighboring projections do not contact each other. With this arrangement, microwaves can be efficiently distributed within the cavity, since the interior surface of the cavity does not have any depressions which would converge microwaves.

Disclosed is an electric apparatus comprising a housing with a door, a turntable arranged in the housing for rotating an object, a synchronous motor for driving the turntable, and a control portion for controllling the driving of the synchronous motor, the control portion having apparatus for storing the time required for the turntable to rotate once, apparatus for determining whether or not a time period which is approximately a natural number multiple of the time required for the turntable to rotate once, has elapsed since initiation of turntable rotation, and apparatus for stopping an operation for the rotation of the turntable on the basis of the determination that time, which is approximately a natural number multiple of the time required for one rotation of the turntable, has elapsed. When the synchronous motor is energized during only the time which is approximately a natural number multiple of the time required for the turntable to rotate once, the turntable stops after it rotates approximately a natural number of times. Accordingly, the object placed on the turntable is stopped in the same position within the housing as that at the time when the rotation of the turntable was initiated, so that the object can be easily taken out.

An electronic control cooking apparatus, such as a microwave oven, when a thawing program comprising a plurality of heating stages is executed, once interrupts the execution of the thawing program at the time of completion of a first heating stage so as to interrupt the heating for food under thawing operation. During the interruption of heating, a user turns over the food and restarts the thawing operation to execute the process from a second heating stage in the thawing program, whereby the thawing process free from non-uniformity is easy to execute in a relatively short time.
