The nickel powder is obtained by precipitating nickel by a reduction reaction in a reaction solution including at least water-soluble nickel salt, salt of metal nobler than nickel, hydrazine as a reducing agent, and alkali metal hydroxide as a pH adjusting agent and water; the reaction solution is prepared by mixing a nickel salt solution including the water-soluble nickel salt and the salt of metal nobler than nickel with a mixed reducing agent solution including hydrazine and alkali metal hydroxide; and the hydrazine is additionally added to the reaction solution after a reduction reaction initiates in the reaction solution.

Provided is an image forming apparatus capable of causing a user to get used to an operation of an apparatus while preventing from executing an unnecessary output by a preview display before outputting, and eliminating trouble of a preview display for a user skilled in the operation of the apparatus. The image forming apparatus (illustrated as a digital multi-functional peripheral) is provided with a setting storage portion (illustrated as a control memory) that stores, for each user, setting information related to a preview display (illustrated as a table) by a display controls portion (illustrated as a panel control portion). The setting information includes forcible execution information showing whether or not the preview image is forcibly displayed by the display control portion. The display control portion performs display control based on the stored setting information.

A charging device is designed in the following manner. Firstly, an optimization of the shape and size of an MC case is performed based on a film thickness and process speed of a photoreceptor (S1). Then, optimization of grid conditions (S2), saw-tooth conditions (S3), a distribution ratio of discharge current (S4) and a grid voltage (S5) are performed respectively, and a minimization of the discharge current is performed (S6). Lastly, surrounding conditions are taken into consideration (S7). The order of performing the processes in S1.about.S6 is not specified. By designing the charging device so as to have at least one feature obtained by the processes in S2.about.S7, a stable discharging operation, a uniform charging operation on the surface of the photoreceptor, reduction in amount of ozone generated when discharging, and reduced size and cost of the charging device can be achieved, and the charging device can be designed effectively in a short period of time.

To maintain an image eraser used for erasing a toner image printed on a sheet operable wastes power, and additionally, a manual operation is required for loading a sheet feed portion with sheets from which the printed image is removed for reuse. The main body of an image forming apparatus is provided with a tray for image erasure and a feed roller for feeding sheets from the tray. Disposed in a passage for transporting the sheets from the tray is an image eraser comprising a nozzle for applying a treatment for removal of toner, a toner removal roller and a pressure roller and the likes. By means of a transport roller, sheets are transferred from the image eraser to an intermediate tray or a registration roller for feeding sheets to an image forming position. The image eraser is actuated for image erasure while the image forming apparatus is not performing an image forming operation. The sheets from which the image is removed are received by the intermediate tray which, in turn, feeds the sheets for image forming operation if it is determined before execution of the operation that the sheets in the intermediate tray match with a sheet size specified for the operation.

The relationship between a discharge gap and a surface potential, and a relationship between a discharge gap and a surface potential variation are obtained. Then, a range of a discharge gap is obtained (approximately 5.about.10 mm) satisfying a range of the required surface potential (-600 V) and the tolerable surface potential variation (30 V). The relationship of the discharge gap with respect to the surface potential and the surface potential variation is varied by reducing the applied current. The discharge gap is converged to one value (approximately 7.5 mm) in response to the range of the discharge gap being reduced.

A process control apparatus of electrophotographic apparatus has an optical sensor for optically detecting the density of toner patches formed on a photoreceptor drum. The present apparatus is further provided with a control device for controlling lamps for the copying process, chargers and other elements. A toner patch is formed on the photoreceptor so as to be located between every two toner images for a copying operation. The control device controls the lamps, chargers and other elements in accordance with the result of the toner patches detected by the optical sensor so as to stabilize the copying picture quality. With the arrangement, it is avoided that the job efficiency during the copying operation deteriorates, and the control data obtained from the toner patches is soon used for the toner image formation for the copying operation, thereby ensuring that the process control improves in accuracy.

An automatic exposure device for a copying machine includes a lamp for exposing an original, a power source for variably supplying electric power to the lamp, a first sensor for determining the quantity of light reflected from the original, a second sensor for determining the quantity of light of the lamp, a controller for increasing the electric power supplied to the lamp by the power source proportionally to decrease in the quantity of the light determined by the first sensor, and a maximum electric poewr setting device for setting the maximum electric power applicable to the lamp by the power source at a high level proportional to decrease in the quantity of light determined by the second sensor.

Automatic exposure device for copying machine

A copying apparatus, a printer or the like is internally provided with a state detecting arrangement for detecting a light emitting state or the brightness of a plurality of locations in the apparatus. The state detecting arrangement includes a plurality of optical fibers having respective ends positioned at a plurality of locations to be detected so that standard levels of light to be received at the other ends of the optical fibers may be different from one another. The arrangement further includes at least one light receiving element for simultaneously receiving light emitted from the other ends of the optical fibers and at least one circuit for judging the state of each location on the basis of a detection level of the light receiving element.

A document detector for a copying machine includes a rectangular document support atop the machine housing and being of corner aligning type which has at least first and second side edges orthogonal to each other for the support thereon of a document with corresponding adjoining sides of the document held generally in abutment with the first and second side edges, and a hingedly supported, generally flat cover mounted on the machine housing for covering the document support when the cover is moved to a closed position. The detector includes a light emitting member and a light receiving member both disposed inside the machine housing at a location beneath one of the first and second side edges of the document support, a reflecting medium secured to the cover for reflecting a beam of light, emitted from the light emitting member, towards the light receiving member, a reflector carried inside and by the machine housing and positioned immediately below such one of the side edges of the document support for guiding the light beam from the light emitting member upwardly towards the reflecting medium and also for guiding the light beam, which has been reflected from the reflecting medium, towards the light receiving member, and a circuit for providing an output indicative of the presence of the document on the document support.
