The seam welding apparatus welds a workpiece held by a robot while delivering the workpiece between a pair of electrode rolls. The seam welding apparatus includes a load cell mounted on the robot, for detecting a load imposed along a Y direction which is perpendicular to a pressing direction Z along which the electrode rolls press the workpiece at a weld point and a delivering direction X along which the robot delivers the workpiece at the weld point, a robot controller and an arithmetic unit, a turning mechanism for turning the electrode rolls about the pressing direction Z, and a control device for controlling the turning mechanism to operate depending on the magnitude of the load in the Y direction detected by the load cell.

In a friction stir welding method for friction stirring and welding a material by using a rotating tool having a shoulder and a pin at a front portion of a shaft portion and ejecting a cooling agent from a cooling nozzle to the tool to be cooled thereby, the cooling agent is ejected to a middle portion in an axial direction of the tool to thereby prevent thermal expansion in an axial direction of the tool.

A method of manufacturing a cylindrical body, comprising the step of forming the cylindrical body by bending a plate-like work having first projected finger to fourth projected finger at four corned parts and allowing the end faces thereof to abut on each other, wherein the main surface of the cylindrical body on the side where sags are present is formed in an outer peripheral wall surface and the rear surface thereof on the side where the burrs are present is formed in an inner peripheral wall surface, and a first projected part is formed of the first projected finger and the third projected finger and a second projected part is formed of the second projected finger and the fourth projected finger. The support core () has passages () defined therein for passage of a cooling medium therethrough.

A method of manufacturing a wheel rim by bringing end faces of a workpiece into abutment against each other to form a hollow cylindrical body and forming a circumferential recess which is depressed from an outer circumferential wall of said hollow cylindrical body toward an inner circumferential wall thereof, including providing protrusions disposed near ends of a joined area of the hollow cylindrical body and extending in a joining direction, and then pressing the outer circumferential wall of the hollow cylindrical body to form the recess.
