Processes are provided for producing propargyl alcohol in an industrially advantageous manner. One of the processes comprises reaction of 1,2,3-trichloropropane with 3 equivalents or more of an alkali compound to produce propargyl alcohol. The other process comprises (1) a first step of reaction of 2,3-dichloro-1-propanol with an amine to produce chloroallyl alcohol, and (2) a second step of reaction of the chloroallyl alcohol obtained in the above step (1) with an alkali compound to produce propargyl alcohol.

Production process and use for propargyl alcohol and its intermediate

Allyl alcohol and chlorine are reacted in a gaseous phase to efficiently produce dichloropropanol and, using the dichloropropanol so produced, epichlorohydrin is efficiently produced.

A process for producing dichloroacetoxypropane comprising reacting allyl acetate with chlorine in a gaseous phase in the presence of a catalyst comprising an element of Group 16 of the long-form Periodic Table or in the absence of a catalyst. The dichloroacetoxypropane obtained may be converted to dichloropropanol and epichlorohydrin.

A process for producing dichloroacetoxypropane comprising reacting allyl acetate with chlorine in a gaseous phase in the presence of a catalyst. The dichloroacetoxypropane obtained may be converted to dichloropropanol and epichlorohydrin.
