There is provided an image reading device capable of preventing disorder of an aspect ratio of an image even when a reading magnification ratio deviates from a set value due to a mechanical error and easily obtaining an accurate image. In this image reading device, a reference mark and a center mark of a line pattern of a reference pattern are projected on a CCD by a zoom lens, and an actual projection magnification ratio of the zoom lens is detected by use of addresses of pixels corresponding to a projection image. Then, a sub-scanning speed calculating section calculates a sub-scanning speed corresponding to the detected actual projection magnification ratio and drives a sub-scanning motor. Therefore, the sub-scanning speed corresponding to the actual projection magnification ratio is set regardless of the presence or absence of a magnification ratio error attributed to a mechanical error in a zooming stage on the lens side, thereby allowing an image accuracy to be guaranteed.

According to a motor control device, an operation of one of multiple motors is feedback-controlled based on a target speed signal corresponding to a predetermined target travel speed of a driven object driven by the one motor, or based on the target speed signal and a target position signal corresponding to a target travel position of the driven object related to the one motor. Based on operation information (current travel speed and/or current position) of the driven object driven by the one motor, other motor is feedback-controlled in accordance with a target travel speed and/or a target travel position of a driven object driven by the other motor with respect to the operation information. Thereby, the operation of the other motor is controlled to follow a possible operation variation (speed variations of the motor and the driven object, and/or a position variation of the driven object driven by the motor) related to the one motor. In this manner, an intended speed ratio and/or an intended positional relationship between the driven objects are precisely kept.

A zoom lens system, for use in a copying apparatus, is provided with, from the object side, a first lens unit of a negative power including a negative lens element, a second lens unit of a positive power including a positive lens element and a negative meniscus lens element concave to the image side, an aperture stop, a third lens unit arranged symmetrically with the second lens unit with respect to the aperture stop, and a fourth lens unit arranged symmetrically with the first lens unit with respect to the aperture stop. The second lens unit and the fourth lens unit are moved in a same direction in association with each other so that the total length of the zoom lens system is minimum at unity magnification. The aperture stop moves so that the symmetry of the entire zoom lens system is maintained. An object-image distance is maintained constant by moving the entire zoom lens system.

A lens driving device having a lens mount integrated with a lens as a unit, a drive rope with convex stripes on its surface, pulleys disposed on the lens mount and having gear tooth channels which engage the convex stripes formed on the drive rope, lens drive gears disposed on the lens mount and having a drive linkage to the pulleys respectively, and a lens guide member with a rack portion which engages with the lens drive gears. The pulleys rotate with the movement of the drive rope and the drive gears rotate interlocking with the rotation of the pulleys so as to move the lens mount along the lens guide member. In case of using a zoom lens with a zoom ring, the lens driving device has gear tooth channel formed on the zoom ring which engages with the convex stripes formed on the drive rope so as to rotate the zoom ring in accordance with the movement of the drive rope.

A device for amending a non-uniform illuminance of an image projected on an photoconductive drum, the device comprising a first shielding member provided between a glass document table and a projecting lens for shielding a portion of a light beam from a peripheral portion of a document image partially in a reduction mode, and a second shielding member provided between the projecting lens and the photoconductive drum for shielding another portion of the light beam from a central portion of the document image partially in an enlargement mode.

A mechanism for curvedly moving a projection lens assembly accommodated in a lens barrel to alter projecting magnification of a projecting optical system is comprised of a support member for supporting a lens barrel accommodating a projection lens assembly, a movable member for holding thereon the support member so that the support member is movable in a first direction, the movable member being movable in a second direction, a guide member in the form of a plate fixedly mounted below the movable member for restricting the position of the support member in the first direction and for guiding the movable member in the second direction, and a drive unit for moving the movable member to an appropriate location corresponding to an altered projecting magnification. The drive unit includes a plurality of pulleys, an endless wire passed about these pulleys and a stepping motor coupled with one of the pulleys.
