In a method of manufacturing an optical component, long-shaped members each for a polarizer, for a Faraday rotator, for a compensator are fixed on the substrate by an epoxy adhesive to fabricate an interim article. The interim article is then adhered on a glass substrate by wax . The interim article is then cut into pieces each of which is used as an optical component for an optical isolator.

Optical component and method of manufacturing the same

An optical modulator (39) includes a substrate (7) exhibiting an electro-optical Pockels effect and having first and second end surfaces (31, 33) opposite to each other. An optical waveguide (9) of a branched interferometer type is formed on the substrate (7) and has first and second branched waveguide portions (11, 13) with an input end and a reflection side end respectively exposed in the first and second end surfaces (31, 33) of the substrate (7). A modulating electrode (15) is formed on the substrate (7) in a vicinity of the branched interferometer type optical waveguide (9). A reflection plate (35) is mounted on the second end surface (33) of the substrate (7) at an angle of inclination (.theta.) with respect thereto. Still further, a spacer (41) is disposed between a side of the reflection plate (35) and the second end surface (33) of the substrate (7) to thereby define the angle of inclination (.theta.) of the reflection plate (35) with respect to the second end surface (33) of the substrate (7).

In a communication system comprising a two-wire bus, bidirectional communication is carried out in a time division multiple access fashion through the two-wire bus between a plurality of terminal equipments (26) coupled to the two-wire bus and a central terminator (24) connected to one end of the two-wire bus which has the other end terminated by an active terminator (25). The central terminator transmits, to the two-wire bus, a down burst comprising a down synchronization signal and a down information signal. Each terminal equipment establishes synchronization with reference to the down synchronization signal and thereafter receives the down information signal. The active terminator sends, towards the central terminator, only an up synchronization signal produced with reference to the down synchronization signal extracted from the down burst. Each terminal equipment transmits an up information signal towards the central terminator in the form of an up burst with reference to the up synchronization signal. The up information signal may be sent back to the two-wire bus by the central terminator to carry out communication among the terminal equipments.

A parallelepiped housing contains a displacement-transfer plate being slidable along the surface, and a pair of micrometer heads of the same shape and same size are mounted on a rear plate of said housing headed toward the front in said housing maintaining parallel and definite distance to one another. A differential lever is formed in such a length that the pivot parts at each tip of said pair of micrometer heads are rendered to serve as fulcrums, respectively, and a non-bisected part in the lengthwise direction of said lever is rotatably and pivotally supported as a point of application at the said displacement-transfer plate. A rectangular slider block is so constructed as to be guided along side plates and a base plate forming said housing, and is always pulled rearwards by a resilient means. Said slider block and said displacement-transfer plate are fastened via a determined space. Whereby coarse and fine adjustable displacements are realized at the displacement-transfer plate.
