A fixing device includes a heating unit, an endless belt body that follows rotation of the heating unit, and a pressing unit that faces the heating unit with the endless belt body interposed therebetween. The pressing unit includes a retaining body that rotatably retains the endless belt body, a pressing-area-forming portion that is a part of the retaining body, and a pressing member provided on an upstream side of the retaining body with respect to the pressing-area-forming portion in a direction of rotation of the endless belt body, the pressing member being a metal plate that is bent along a line extending in a longitudinal direction thereof. The pressing unit is movable relative to the heating unit between a position where a pressing area is formed by the pressing-area-forming portion and the pressing member and a position where the pressing area is formed by the pressing member.

Fixing device and image forming apparatus having a movable pressing unit

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming portion and a fixing device. The image forming portion forms a developer image on a recording medium. The fixing device is removably mounted to an image forming apparatus body, and fixes the developer image formed by the image forming portion to the recording medium. The fixing device includes a first rotator, a second rotator, and a pressing mechanism. The second rotator contacts the first rotator to form an interposition region in which the recording medium is interposed between the first rotator and the second rotator. The pressing mechanism presses the first rotator and the second rotator against each other. The image forming apparatus further includes a change mechanism that changes a force with which the pressing mechanism presses the first rotator and the second rotator against each other. The change mechanism is mounted to the image forming apparatus body.

A fixing device includes first and second contact bodies that apply a pressure to a recording medium to fix an unfixed image on the recording medium; a pressing member that is movable between a first position at which the pressing member is in contact with the first contact body and a second position at which the pressing member is separated from the first contact body; a first urging member that urges the pressing member to apply a force to the first contact body; a guide member that controls a direction in which the first contact body moves; a second urging member that is interposed between the pressing member and the guide member and that urges the guide member to apply a force to the first contact body; and a changer that selectively changes a position of the pressing member between the first and second positions.

A fixing device includes a rotatable pressure member; a heating member that is provided so as to oppose the pressure member, and that includes a heat source; a fixing member that fixes an image to a recording medium as a result of transporting the recording medium while the recording medium is nipped at a nip when the fixing member is pressed by the pressure member, the image being formed of toner including a separating agent; a cooling unit that cools the pressure member at a location that is situated downstream of the nip; a removing roller that, while being driven and rotated by the pressure member, removes the separating agent from the pressure member, the separating agent being transferred from the fixing member; and a removing member that contacts the removing roller and removes the separating agent adhered to the removing roller from the removing roller.

A medium correcting device includes: a first holding body that holds a first rotating body having a surface moving circumferentially; a second holding body that holds a second rotating body having a surface that moves following the circumferential movement of the first rotating body and becoming a coupled body incorporating the first and second rotating bodies; a rotation shaft connected to a driving system when the coupled body is housed in a housing body and separated from the driving system when the coupled body is removed; an off-center cam eccentrically fixed to the rotation shaft, presses one rotating body against the other by an amount of pressing according to an angle of the off-center cam, the amount being larger in a downward eccentric direction; and a center-of-gravity correction section fixed to the rotation shaft, causing a larger torque than a torque produced by the off-center cam's own gravity.

A medium clamping device includes a device main unit that includes: a first circularly moving body that has a surface circularly moving and harder than a recording medium; a second circularly moving body that has a surface moving circularly and harder than the recording medium passing between the both surfaces of the two circularly moving bodies; and a load applying section that applies a load to at least one of the first circularly moving body and the second circularly moving body, to sandwich the recording medium by the load with two moving bodies. The medium clamping device further includes: a support section that supports the device main unit and is secured to a fixed body; and an alleviating system that alleviates transmission of a shock from the device main unit to the fixed body and is incorporated in the support section.

A medium transport device includes a rotating member forming a nip region with a facing member; a guide member configured to rotate in first and second directions opposite to each other; a protrusion serving as a positioning reference for the guide member; and a restricting member including first and second surfaces. The restricting member restricts rotation of the guide member in the first direction such that the guide member does not rotate beyond a position at which the first surface is in contact with the protrusion and at which the guide member guides a sheet medium in an intended direction, and restricts rotation of the guide member in the second direction such that the guide member does not rotate beyond a position at which the second surface is in contact with the protrusion and at which the guide member is not in contact with the facing member.

A heating device includes: a heating member that heats a recording medium; a pressure member that forms a heating pressure portion between the pressure member and the heating member by coming into pressure contact with the heating member, the heating pressure portion passing through the recording medium; a tensioning member that is placed to face the pressure member with the heating member interposed therebetween, and that provides a tension to the heating member; and a guide member that guides the recording medium having passed through the heating pressure portion, and that is movable between a first secure position and a second secure position.

A heating device includes: a heating member heating a recording medium; a pressure member forming a heating pressure portion between the pressure member and the heating member by coming into pressure contact with the heating member, the heating pressure portion passing through the recording medium; a tensioning member placed to face the pressure member across the heating member to provide a tension to the heating member; and a cooling unit cooling the pressure member, the cooling unit including: an air blower generating an air flow; a circulator circulating the air flow along the pressure member; and a group of protruding portions provided on the circulator to guide the air flow.
