The present invention relates to composite elements containing, as a layer, at least one thermoplastic polymer, adhering to which, as a layer, a polyisocyanate polyaddition product is attached, and a process for the production thereof.

The invention provides composite elements containing a thermoplastic polymer layer, adhering to a layer comprising the reaction product of a reaction mixture containing a prepolymer containing isocyanate groups produced by the reaction of at least one isocyanate and one polycarbonate polyalcohol with a functionality of 2 to 3 and a hydroxyl number of about 40 to about 400 mg KOH/g, based on the condensation of carbonates with diols and/or triols with a molecular weight of about 62 to about 3000 g/mol, the prepolymer having an isocyanate group content of about 5 to about 48%, compounds reactive with respect to isocyanates and optionally catalysts blowing agents and/or auxiliary substances and/or additives. The present invention further provides a process for the production the composite elements.

Activators with reduced volatility that are liquid at room temperature are obtained as the reaction product of (A) a secondary amine or primary alcohol having at least one tertiary amine group, (B) a polyisocyanate of the diphenylmethane series having a functionality of from 2.5 to 4.0 and an OH-functional reactive component capable of addition to isocyanate. The invention relates to the use of poly-N,N-di-(hydroxyalkyl)-polycarbonamides of aliphatic or cycloaliphatic polycarboxylic acids as reactive flame-retardants for polyurethane foams, and in particular polyurethane integral skin foams and polyurethane rigid foams which are produced with the aid of organic blowing agents. These reactive flame-retardants are added in quantities of from 11.5 to 50 parts by weight, and most preferably from 12 to 25 parts by weight, based on 100 parts of the relatively high molecular weight polyol used for the preparation of the foam. The integral skin or rigid foams produced are flame-resistant and because of their reduced flammability are capable of passing various regulation fire tests, and in particular those testing foams for use in vehicles for transport.
