In a method for localizing a fault location within a fuel injection system, when a critical fault is detected by the diagnostic function, a pulse or a series of pulses to the injectors is triggered by a control unit. By observing the voltage value and/or charge value at the injector, it is possible to localize the fault location within the fuel injection system.

In a method for testing the operation of a pressure sensing unit of an injection system of an internal combustion engine, the injection system has no high-pressure valve. An error is detected when a pressure gradient value falls below a pressure gradient limit while at the same time the most recently detected pressure is higher than a pressure limit.

A first condition, which is met when a measuring signal (V_SENS) of a sensor exceeds a first threshold value (V_SW), is checked. A second condition, which is met when a gradient (GRD_V_SENS) of a measuring signal (V_SENS) is greater than a predefined second threshold (GRD_V_SW), is checked. If the first and second conditions are met, this is recognized on a sensor with a signal evaluation area multiplex output for the measuring signal. If at least one of the conditions is not met, this is recognized on a sensor without a signal evaluation area-multiplex output for the measuring signal.

Method for recognizing a sensor type

Defective actuators in an internal combustion engine with at least one cylinder are detected. A mean value, in particular the arithmetic mean value, determines a measurement variable of all the actuators of a given type present on the cylinders. The measurement variable depends on at least one parameter. In a further step, a deviation is formed which is independent of the parameter. This ensures that the deviation across the entire parameter range remains constant. In a further step, the limit values, in particular the upper and lower limit values, are formed, the limit values being dependent on the deviation and on the mean value formed above. If an individual value of the measurement variable exceeds one of the two limit values, the method according to the invention detects this actuator as faulty and/or defective.

Method for determining defective actuators in an internal combustion engine

In a method for the diagnosis of a sensor, in particular a pedal-travel sensor of a motor vehicle, a first signal (S) and at least one second equivalent signal (S) are delivered. If the second signal (S) is time-delayed with respect to the first signal (S), at least the previous curve of the first signal (S) and/or the previous curve of the second signal (S) is taken into account.
