A device is provided for injecting an emulsion of water and fuel into an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle. The device includes a water tank () for storing water, a fuel tank () for storing fuel, first and second fluid lines (), an emulsion mixer having a mixing chamber (), first and second inlets (), and an outlet (). The water tank () is connected to the first inlet () via the first fluid line (). The fuel tank () is connected to the second inlet () via the second fluid line (). The emulsion mixer is configured to output an emulsion that comprises the fuel and the water via the outlet (). A settable mixer is in the mixing chamber () and is configured to set a mixture ratio between the water and the fuel in the emulsion.

Device for injecting an emulsion into an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle

A collecting pressure line () for a fuel injection system of an internal combustion engine has a flow-traversable interior (). The collecting pressure line () has at least one injector that is flow-traversable with the aid of a throughflow opening (). Fluid present in the collecting pressure line () is injected with the aid of the injector into a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine. An elastic member () is formed in the interior () and is designed to be flow-traversable while bearing against a line inner wall () and spaced apart from the throughflow opening ().

Collecting pressure line for a fuel injection system of an internal combustion engine

A fuel injection system () for an internal combustion engine has a low-pressure pump for delivering fuel from a fuel tank. The fuel is fed upstream of an injector () of the fuel injection system () to a mixing device (). The mixing device () has a mixer housing () with a fuel connection () for receiving fuel and with at least one coolant connection () for receiving a coolant. For the purpose of bringing about efficient mixing of the fuel and the coolant, before a collision of a fuel jet () of the fuel and a coolant jet () of the coolant, the two fluid jets () are formed to be at least partially aligned in the same direction.

Mixing device for a fuel injection system of an internal combustion engine

A method for operating an internal combustion engine with compression ignition or with spark ignition as a function of an operating point. A specific residual exhaust-gas quantity in the combustion space is set for compression ignition. The internal combustion engine is operated as a function of the operating point by an outlet cam, by which a first outlet opening phase and a second outlet opening phase take place. The second outlet opening phase commences during an inlet opening phase. At a first operating point in a compression-ignition mode, a residual exhaust-gas quantity in a combustion space is dimensioned as a function of a valve interference set between the inlet and the outlet valve during a charge exchange. At a second operating point in the compression-ignition mode the residual exhaust-gas quantity in the combustion space is dimensioned as a function of a duration of the second outlet opening phase.

Internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine with a plurality of cylinders, which are each assigned an inlet valve, an outlet valve and a combustion space, with an inlet camshaft connected to a camshaft adjuster, with an outlet camshaft connected to a camshaft adjuster, with a switchable inlet-valve drive which has a plurality of inlet cams for actuating the respective inlet valve, with a switchable outlet-valve drive which has a plurality of outlet cams for actuating the respective outlet valve, and with an exhaust-gas system. The internal combustion engine is operated with compression ignition or with spark ignition as a function of the operating point. For this purpose, for the compression ignition, a specific residual exhaust-gas quantity is set in the combustion space. Furthermore, the internal combustion engine is operated as a function of the operating point by means of an outlet cam.

An engine is operated with two groups of cylinders, one of which groups is constantly powered and a second of said groups is selectively operated by cutting it in and out. The second group of cylinders is cut in and out by switching the valve lift of the associated charge-changing valves. The valve lift of the constantly operated cylinder group is also independently variable so that in both operating states of the second cylinder group, consumption-optimized valve lifts can be set for the first cylinder group.
