A tensioning device has a tension arm mounted on a base. A pulley is mounted on the tension arm for engaging a looped belt. By changing mounting bushings, one can select either a static mode wherein the tension arm is held stationary relative to the base, or a dynamic mode wherein, in response to a changing force applied between the pulley and the belt (due to vibrations or load changes, for example), the tension arm moves relative to the base such in a manner as to maintain the force substantially constant. Several such devices can be employed in a system for controlling the tension of a looped belt, one or more of the devices being in the static mode and one or more being in the dynamic mode. Several such systems can be employed in a complex machine such as a photocopier or medical apparatus for controlling the tension in a number of different belts.

Device for placing looped belt under tension

Device for placing a looped belt under tension

A duplexer, usable to interlink a receiver unit, transmitter unit, and an antenna unit of a communication system, has a body that includes cavities and interconnecting apertures. The duplexer further includes resonator covers that cover the cavities and apertures from a bottom side of the body and tuning covers that cover the cavities and apertures from a top side of the body. The resonator covers have integral resonator posts that extend into the cavities when the resonator covers are press-fitted into the body. The tuning covers have threaded openings for the insertion of tuning screws into the cavities and for the insertion of coupling screws into the apertures. The cavities and apertures are tuned to reflect or pass signals of selected frequencies by turning the tuning screws and coupling screws.

Die-cast duplexer

An integrated chassis slide assembly (10) is provided for integration with a chassis (12) and coupling to a mounting rack (not shown). The integrated chassis slide assembly (10) includes a fixed slide (14) coupled to the mounting rack (not shown), at least one intermediate slide (16), and an integrated chassis slide (18), where the integrated chassis slide is attached to the chassis (12) and forms a side panel of the chassis. The top and bottom edges of both the intermediate slide (16) and the integrated chassis slide (18) are bent over and outward to form opposed U-shaped channels (86, 106), and all the slides are slidably interlocked in a nested fashion, with the top and bottom edges of the fixed slide (14) nested within the channels (86) of the intermediate slide (16), and the channels of the intermediate slide nested within the channels (106) of the integrated chassis slide (18). Such interconnection allows for easy extension and retraction of the chassis along the assembly slides.

Integrated chassis slide assembly

A sealed, seamless box (10) that forms an RF-wave- or gas-tight enclosure is disclosed. The box of this invention includes a box body (12) formed of a single metal sheet (23) with a base panel (16) and upwardly extending side panels (18). The side panels are provided with tabs (20) that are thinner than the basic metal sheet. The tabs are seated in complementary cutouts (22) formed in the adjacent side panels. The cutouts have a depth equal to the tabs so that the side panels have a substantially uniform thickness equal to the thickness of the basic metal sheet. The tabs are secured in place by pins (30) formed integrally with the tabs that extend into openings (32) formed in the portions of the adjacent side panels that define the cutouts.

Sealed, seamless box and method of manufacturing same

A temperature-compensated tuning screw (22) for use with a cavity filter (20) is provided. The tuning screw (22) has an elongate body (36) with a longitudinal bore (38). A compensating member (40) is positioned at least partially within the bore (38). At least one compensation bimetallic washer (44) deflects with decreasing temperature and causes the compensating member (40) to protrude further from the body (36). The compensation bimetallic washers (44) become flatter with increasing temperature and a coil spring (42) causes the compensating member (40) to be partially retracted into the bore (38). The movement of the compensating member (40) causes an overall length, L, of the tuning screw (22) to change. The tuning screw (22) can be screwed into a hole (32) in a cavity filter (20) so that the tuning screw (22) penetrates the cavity filter (20) a distance, P. A temperature-induced change in L, .DELTA.L, causes a change in P, .DELTA.P. The change in penetration, .DELTA.P, compensates for temperature-induced changes in the geometry of the cavity filter (20) and substantially corrects for a temperature-induced frequency drift, .DELTA.f'.

Temperature-compensated tuning screw for cavity filters

An emergency brake control valve and a system incorporating the same that enables the locomotive engineer to remotely initiate emergency braking at the rear or any intermediate car of the train. The system includes a master unit that is constructed so as to be mounted in the locomotive of the train and a remote control unit that is constructed so as to be mounted on one of the cars. Preferably, the remote control unit is mounted on the last car so that emergency braking may be initiated at the rear of the train. Actuation by the engineer of an emergency brake switch (20) produces an output signal that is transmitted by a radio transmitter (22) and received by a radio receiver (24) in the remote control unit. In response to the received signal, an actuator (26) is energized to operate a solenoid valve (28) from a normally closed position to an open position to connect a control port (48) of an emergency brake control valve (30) to atmosphere. This produces a pressure differential that causes a movable valve member (70) in the emergency brake control valve to shift to an open position in which the vehicle brake pipe (21) is exhausted to atmosphere through an exhaust port (27, 44). To terminate emergency braking, the solenoid valve is closed. This, in turn, shifts the movable valve member to its closed position so that normal braking activities can be resumed. The invention is adapted for complementary use with a system that monitors and remotely displays a plurality of train status conditions. To enable supply of the brake pipe air pressure to pressure sensors (56, 58) in a train status-monitoring system, the movable valve member (70) has a passageway (81) that provides fluid communication between its primary and secondary sides. When the valve member is in its closed position, the brake pipe air pressure is supplied through this passageway and then through the control port (48) to the pressure sensors for the brake pressure monitor. For use in either a stand-alone system or in conjunction with a remote monitoring system, the emergency brake control valve (30) has a glad-hand connector (34) so that the valve may be coupled directly to the existing glad-hand connection (36) for the brake pipe of the railway vehicle.

Railway emergency brake system

A rechargeable battery pack that is easily installed and removed without the use of tools and with assurance that the correct polarity of the batteries will be established. A plurality of rechargeable batteries (54) are contained by a top cover (50) and a bottom cover (52). The bottom cover includes a pair of locating holes (65, 67) and a pair of recessed female connectors (66, 68) that are connected to the batteries to provide terminals of opposite polarity. The female connectors (66, 68) and the locating holes (65, 67) are arranged for complementary mating engagement with a pair of male connectors (42) and a pair of locating pins (20, 22), included in an electrical coupling (12) of a device to be powered. The top cover (50) includes a locating hole (55) that is cooperatively aligned with one of the locating holes (65) in the bottom cover so that one of the locating pins (20) of the electrical coupling may be received thereby. To prevent improper insertion of the battery pack, the locating pins (20, 22) are configured differently from one another and the locating holes (55, 65, 67) are configured complementary thereto. To avoid inadvertent damage to the sides of the batteries during installation, the top and bottom covers include tubular skirts (57, 69, 70) that guide the locating pins. The longer of the two locating pins (20) has a threaded end (40) that receives a retaining nut assembly (14) to firmly secure the battery pack in place. To minimize mechanical stress on the electrical connections, the male connectors (42) are mounted on a circuit board (46) that floats relative to the locating pins (20, 22).

Rechargeable battery pack

A coupler mount assembly 14 includes an open-side box to which may be secured a housing 10 of an item of electronics or other equipment. A first jaw member including upper and lower, parallel hooks 54A, 54B and a second jaw member including upper and lower, parallel hooks 58A, 58B are supported by the open-sided box for relative translative movement. To install the coupler mount assembly on the coupler 12 of a railway vehicle, the hooks of the first jaw member are inserted through respective relief holes 84A, 84B in coupler side wall 12A and the hooks of the second jaw member are inserted through respective relief holes 86A, 86B in the coupler side wall. The first and second jaw members are then drawn toward each other by rotation of a rod (through a handle 66) passing through and effectively bearing on the first jaw member and threadedly received in the second jaw member, until the hooks thereof clamp an intermediate portion of the coupler side wall between the relief hole pairs. The open-sided box has flanges 88 and 90, with flange 88 having spaced-apart projections 88A and 88B engaging the coupler side wall adjacent the coupler tip and with flange 90 having projection 90A engaging the coupler side wall at the intermediate portion thereof, to prevent transverse rocking of the coupler mount assembly and to achieve a desired vertical orientation of the housing.
