Described is a device and a procedure to twist a coil into perforations that are provided in the margin sections of flat components, sheets of paper in particular, with a drive that causes the rotation and axial in-feed of the coil, corresponding to the inclination of its helix shape. With a stopping device the coil is inhibited from moving further and a release brings the coil out of contact with the stopping device and into contact with the drive.

Device and procedure for twisting a coil into perforations of flat components

Presented are a device and a method to produce helical coils from a filament, preferably consisting of plastic. A rotatable winding spindle and an associated filament-shaping device are provided to wind up the filament in a helical pattern, whereby the winding spindle extends beyond the filament-shaping device in the feed direction of the filament to be wound up. Viewed in the feed direction of the filament to be wound onto the winding spindle, a pressing device is provided downstream of the filament-shaping device that presses the filament against the winding spindle and is designed to generate a predominantly adequate friction contact between the filament and the winding spindle so that the rotation of the winding spindle essentially takes along the filament into the winding direction.

Device and method to produce helical coils from a filament

Deformable metallic or plastic connectors of the type having an elongated bridge carrying two mirror symmetrical rows of substantially C-shaped prongs can be assembled with successive stacks of overlapping sheets, wherein the spine of each stack is provided with a row of straight or arcuate holes, by causing the connector at an inserting station to move along an arcuate path extending transversely of the bridge and having a curvature corresponding to or approximating that of the prongs in one of the rows or that of the arcuate holes. This results in the introduction of one of the rows of prongs into the holes. The prongs of at least one of the two rows are thereupon deformed so that the tips of the prongs of one row abut or at least slightly overlap the tips of the prongs of the other row; this prevents accidental separation of the connector from the stack.

Method of and apparatus for pivotably coupling stacked sheet-like commodities with each other

A tool which loops the end portion of the outermost convolution of a spiral wire binder around the neighboring next-to-the-outermost convolution while the convolutions of the binder extend through the perforations of a stack of paper sheets and the binder is located in a preselected position has a knife which trims the outermost convolution and thereupon bends the end portion of the outermost convolution to a position of parallelism with and proximity to a stationary surface. A looping device which is mounted at the forward end of a rotary reciprocable shaft is thereupon caused to engage the bent end portion in response to forward movement of the shaft and to loop the bent end portion by moving it along the surface and around the neighboring convolution in response to rotation of the shaft. The shaft is rotatable and reciprocable and the knife is movable by a set of coaxial cams which complete one revolution in order to effect trimming of the outermost convolution, to thereupon effect bending of the end portion of the trimmed convolution and to ultimately effect looping of the bent end portion. The cams are rotatable by a rack and pinion drive through the medium of a one-way clutch.
