A powdered polyurethane, preferably a powdered recycled polyurethane rigid foam is co-dried with a water insoluble film-forming polymer to obtain a redispersible polymer powder composite for use in hydraulic binders or cementitious compositions to improve performance of cementitious compositions or mortar, in applications such as cement based the adhesives (CBTA), or external thermal insulating composite systems (ETICS).

Use of polyurethane powder as inner additive of redispersible polymer powder

The present invention relates to a water redispersible polymer powder (RDP) which comprises a co-dried admixture of a water-insoluble film forming polymer, a colloidal stabilizer and rubber particles. The presence of rubber within the RDP does not significantly affect redispersibility and may, when incorporated into hydraulically-binding compositions, provide an improvement in the physical properties of the resultant hydraulically bound composition.

Dry mix formulations containing a redispersible polymer powder (RDP) made of a low carboxylation, large particle size water-insoluble film-forming styrene butadiene polymer having at least one ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid monomer, and a high alumina content cement such as a calcium aluminate cement (CAC) or a calcium sulfoaluminate cement (CSA) provides cement compositions having unexpectedly superior water immersion shear strength and set time for a cement containing tile adhesive (CBTA or CTA), superior adhesion properties in water proofing mortars or mortar applications, and superior flexural and compressive strength in grout applications.

Dry mix formulations containing carboxylated styrene-butadiene redispersible polymer powders and alumina rich containing cements

A water redispersible polymer powder is produced by drying an aqueous mixture of a carboxylated styrene butadiene polymer and a colloidal stabilizer which includes a polyvinyl alcohol modified with an alkyl end chain. The alkyl modified polyvinyl alcohol provides excellent redispersibility of the redispersible polymer powder without adversely affecting spray drying. Cement compositions such as mortars, which contain the redispersible polymer powder with the alkyl modified polyvinyl alcohol exhibit unexpectedly superior stability and an unexpectedly lower rate of mortar viscosity buildup which is advantageous for workability or troweling.

Styrene-butadiene based redispersible polymer powders with improved stability in cement applications

The present invention provides compositions comprising redispersible polymer powders of polyolefins with carboxyl group containing dispersant polymers and vinyl ester copolymers which may further comprise hydraulic or water curable inorganic cements for various construction applications, such as cement tile adhesives. Methods of making redispersible polymer powders of polyolefins are also provided, including forming an aqueous polyolefin dispersion, such as, for example, by mechanical dispersion, followed by drying to form the redispersible polymer powders.

Redispersible polymer powder from polyolefin dispersions and the use thereof in construction applications

A water redispersible polymer powder is produced by drying an aqueous mixture of a high Tcarboxylated styrene butadiene polymer and a low Tcarboxylated styrene butadiene polymer, where the ratio of the mean or average particle size of the high Tpolymer to the particle size of the low Tpolymer is from 1:1 to 5:1, preferably from 1:1 to 3:1, and the amount of the high Tpolymer is from 20 wt. % to 35 wt. %, preferably from 25 wt. % to 30 wt. %, based upon the total weight of the high Tpolymer and the low Tpolymer. Cement compositions such as mortars, which contain the redispersible polymer powder exhibit unexpectedly superior high bond strength and high impact resistance.

Redispersible polymer powders prepared from blends of carboxylate

The invention concerns redispersible polymer powders which can be used in a variety of ways, for example, in hydraulically binding systems, but also as binder in greatly varied applications and which can be produced by spray-drying of aqueous dispersions. The sprayable aqueous dispersions are prepared by mixing an aqueous polymer dispersion 1 (containing polymer I) with an aqueous polymer dispersion 2 (containing polymer II) where the diameters of the particles of polymer I are greater by a factor of 5 to 150, preferably 15 to 50, than the diameter of the particles of polymer II, and polymer I is a polymer which forms films at room temperature, while polymer II has a glass transition temperature which is higher than that of polymer I, is insoluble in water and thus it is present in the undissolved form in the aqueous dispersion to be sprayed. The polymer powders according to the invention excel by a clearly improved resistance to blocking and very good storage stability.
